Trip/In is a travel companion that provides personalised and optimised information on the choice of activities available at airports. The platform uses a predictive algorithm and recommendation model to improve conversion rates at airports and improve travellers experience. Due to the current health crisis, we pivot our idea and business model to address challenges that the travel industry is facing by building a context-aware data-driven app to assess policy measures taken so far, propose corrective actions and most importantly to inform decision-makers on the possible future impacts on any measures they may want to implement. Nonetheless, our business model remains B2BC. We extend our services to region, cities, airlines and airport’s needs. Our service offers extensive content (healthiest advice and smart alerts), provides a communication channel between airport, municipalities, countries and travellers. Our client will access specific data regarding traveller movement and behaviour via a monthly paid subscription. The health interest here is major: risky contacts are traced instantly and anonymously for all cases detected on a given day, trip, or airport. Trip/In is set to be a favoured travel companion that constantly seeks out information to inform travellers’ decision-making processes.

What is the need are you focusing on?

Travel and especially travel by air exposes passengers to a number of factors that may have an impact on health. Air travel played a big role at the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic in importing the virus across borders. When the threat of the virus eventually lifts and people start traveling again, the transportation industry will face heightened concerns about infection. Countries, municipalities and airports will also be looking at how to limit the spread of a virus in the case a passenger is detected as a virus carrier during or after his trip.

Which type of submission are you sharing?

Describe the business pivot or adaptation in 3-4 sentences.

In this time of COVID-19 pandemic where the travel industry faces an uncertain future and is scrambling to adapt, all stakeholders involved in the travel industry, will need to work together to established new protocols that will bring back trust and accountability.Trip/In is a travel companion that provides personalised and optimised information on the choice of activities available at travel ports (airports and train stations). Our service will offer extensive content (healthiest advices and alerts), and provide a communication channel between the travel port ecosystem, Countries, municipalities and travellers. We have integrated 145 airports with standard information. Due to the current health crisis, we pivot our idea and business model to address challenges that the travel industry is facing by building a context-aware data-driven app to assess policy measures taken so far, & most importantly to inform decision-makers on the possible future impacts on any measures they may want.

Do you plan to implement this solution?

  • Yes

Describe the impact that this solution will create in the world.

For a virus-like COVID-19, swift and exhaustive detection of carriers are essential to control the spread of the pandemic. The health interest here is major: risky contacts are traced instantly and anonymously for all cases detected on a given day, trip, or airport, such performance is impossible with traditional contact tracing approaches alone. This solution will also address the need for public engagement, awareness and acceptance through active communication. By 2029, more than 14 billion travellers will be flowing through airports globally, which will become akin to city centres. The management of this influx of travellers brings with it specific challenges and opportunities in a post-pandemic context.

  • Yes

If Yes to the above, please share 1-2 sentences describing the specific help you desire.

Considering airports represent a platform for development and should seek to attract a wide variety of business opportunities, they must not shy away from competition. Agility and competition are crucial and allow airports to turn competitors into partners. This is what can be called “coopetition”, which refers to the creation of an environment which promotes competition and cooperation. This entails working together to create a safer, healthier,& well-informed environment for travellers.

What do you think are the main barriers to implementing this solution?

1. Getting Access to data platforms of the different stakeholders of the travel industry (airports, duty-free shops, airline companies, transportation companies from and to the airport…). 2. Adoption by travelers. This could be mitigated by sensitization of travellers in collaboration with the stakeholders mentioned above in the framework of a partnership.

If you are currently working on a pivot, what have you learned so far?

Customer-related information is a crucial aspect that can benefit airports as a result of this "coopetition" environment and can allow airports to tailor the experience and respond to customers’ needs. Such data can be obtained as a result of effective analytics which reports, analyse, monitor, and predict customer trends and needs. Therefore, ideally, there should be a way for a platform to collect passenger data, and learn from it to predict trends, interest, and as a result, ease their air travel experience. The current crisis forces us to pivot our business model to remain relevant to this "coopetition" environment with stakeholders. We have learnt from our platform, the technology we used how to quickly adapt and become more "user-centric". The users are looking for new ways to be reassured, to be updated on any given area no matter the transportation mode. We have become a multimodal platform. We extend our services beyond travel ports to serve Cities, region and countries.
