My contribution is an app that stores can used to allow customers to place mobile orders and have those orders brought out to the customer

Instacart and other delivery services like it have been essential for enabling social distancing, but the massive problem with them is that the companies cannot insure that their delivery people are not carriers of COVID or that they are taking all necessary measures to prevent of COVID. My proposal is to cut out the delivery people and have the store or restaurant bring the goods directly to the customer's vehicle. This eliminates a large amount of potential contact with COVID because the customer need not worry about the people their delivery guy has interacted with.

What is the need are you focusing on?

Food and supply services for the elderly and vulnerable

Which type of submission are you sharing?

  • Identifying a gap that needs to be addressed

Describe the business pivot or adaptation in 3-4 sentences.

Because COVID-19 can survive on surfaces for long periods of time, non-contact deliveries are not necessarily going to be effective at delaying the spread of the disease. Cutting out the deliveryman and their potentially compromised vehicle eliminates some of the variables for these populations who are susceptible to the disease. It also reduces the number of people a person has interacted with by proxy.

Do you plan to implement this solution?

  • No

Describe the impact that this solution will create in the world.

This will help people who cannot afford to be interacting with many people. It will begin to positively make change as soon as it is implemented.

What is your profession?

Food service

Where are you located (country)?

United States

Where are you located (region)?

  • North America

What do you think are the main barriers to implementing this solution?

cost. That and it's not something that people may have thought of. There definitely is profit motive that can be found, but this is not a solution I have heard talked about

Are you aware of any open source efforts, hackathons or other collaborative efforts related to your solution? Are you participating in these efforts?

I am not aware of any
