Rating system and certification for sanitization and disinfection.

This is inspired by the LEED rating system for buildings. In this case the rating system would be backed by an organization such as the CDC.

The concept of sanitization and social-distancing practice certification addresses the need for consumer comfort when returning to society's "new normal" post COVID-19. While businesses will likely be required to implement some certain practices by law, customers are far more likely to feel comfortable quickly returning to these businesses that go above and beyond the requirements to ensure the safety of their patrons. In order for customers to quickly understand the level of care that each business has put into their processes, an approved rating system should be implemented to incentivize businesses to go above and beyond.

The rating system is planned to be approved by an organization such as the WHO or CDC and sponsored by a relevant cleaning supply manufacturer (Lysol, Tide, etc.) who will be responsible for start-up costs in exchange for the title branding. The rating system will judge all businesses and service providers in a variety of categories and their commitment to keeping to these strict guidelines. The specific categories will vary depending on the type of business, and there will be four levels of certification (Certified, Bronze, Silver, and Gold.) The point system is to be awarded out of 100 and will work as follows:

Government Requirements : 25+ Pts (this is the minimum required level of sanitization and social distancing measures as instructed by the government.)

Certified: 50-59 Pts

Bronze: 60-69 Pts

Silver: 70-89 Pts

Gold: 80+ Pts

Do you plan to implement this solution?

  • I plan to share with an implementing organization

Describe the impact that this solution will create in the world.

Ideally, this concept will encourage businesses to go above and beyond in methods of social-distancing and sanitization in order to receive accreditation. This should also increase the speed of deployment for these solutions as consumers are far more likely to flock to businesses that they deem are trustworthy and where they feel comfortable. If this is implemented, I believe it will benefit all consumers by increasing transparency of post COVID-19 efforts by companies, as well as help companies understand what level of cleanliness is deemed necessary by the greater population. If this is implemented nationwide, as long as businesses comprehend the advantages of receiving higher levels of certification this will affect the majority of consumers in a positive way. With regards to timeline, the development of this platform could be done rather quickly (within 3 months) and implemented within a month. I think that the potential issues are ensuring an official organization to back the certification levels, and a sponsored partner to ensure funding. The final piece of the puzzle is whether or not businesses see the value and adopt the processes quickly, which I think those (especially in large population centers) will do.
