Currently in development the solution is an SMS and USSD based surveillance tool, that can collect standard case definition signals for COVID-19 from date entered by community health volunteers, across Africa. The system will be augmented by analysis of “chatter” or other unstructured data, such as texts from the public as well as monitoring media reports, rumours, stories, social media and websites. Allowing governments, to make best use of available test kits and prioritise intervention areas likely to have the most impact, while balancing out the social and economic shocks of Covid -19. A phased roll out will see the development of a Social Distancing enabling App, that will leverage surveillance data, to provide social distancing assistance, by categorising essential service outlets into zones based on the number of suspected and confirmed cases and allow users allow users to identify the most suitable/ safest outlet to patronise, from the available options at any given time, based on the level of traffic/footfall. The third and final phase will see the application used to trace contacts of patients that test positive, by leveraging the use of blockchain technology to trace contacts of patients who test positive in an anonymous manner.
