It is estimated that In 2008-2009, 22 million jobs were lost around the world. Fast forward to 2020, Coronavirus-related lockdowns and travel restrictions are affecting almost 2.7 billion workers worldwide, around 81 percent of the global workforce, the international labour organisation said in a new report.
"So this is a complete job catastrophe. But I suppose in a world where four out of every five workers are living in countries under total or partial lockdown, it shouldn’t come as a total surprise that we’re in this territory."
"Our forecast for the next three months, for the second quarter of the year, is that we are going to lose the equivalent of 195 million jobs around the world," ILO Director-General Guy Ryder told Euronews in an interview.
In this time of crisis, while people are losing their jobs, we are missing out on the abundance of knowledge and skills which are resting untapped.
We arrived at the idea by thinking about how airbnb revolutionized the market with a "simple proposal", offering a space that is available and that you don't usually use to generate extra income. Then we thought that maybe people do the same for us, we have skills and knowledge that we don't get a profit from.
Hence we are proposing to build a platform to connect people with a need for small help/service
(especially tasks which don’t need an expert certification). The person who needs help can browse through this platform to find a parttime service provider in their local community.
We, as intermediaries, will provide systems that allow building trust between both parties (certified accounts, reviews, etc.). Additionally, we will be managing the payment system, hence our platform will be responsible for releasing the payment once the service has been validated.
