DrSafeHands is a healthcare startup working in the space of sexual and mental health in India. There is a high stigma around sexual and mental health issues in many developing nations. We have been helping people with tele-medicine and providing diagnostic services through our network of partner labs and collection centres , exceeding a count of 8000, across India.

With Covid 19 having an unprecedented adverse effect on mental health of people, we have pivoted to launch dedicated tele-psychiatry services for those falling prey to depression, anxiety and other disabling mental disorders.

What is the need are you focusing on?

According to WHO

"One in four people in the world will be affected by mental or neurological disorders at some point in their lives. Around 450 million people currently suffer from such conditions, placing mental disorders among the leading causes of ill-health and disability worldwide."

With loss of jobs and livelihoods, crushing worries to pay the bills, loss or fear of loss of loved ones, social distancing that goes against basic human nature, we are witnessing an unprecedented rise in people with depression, anxiety disorders, suicidal ideation and so on

This is another curve that we need to flatten which is hardly getting the attention it deserves.

In India alone, 1 in 7 people need mental health care and we have 1 Psychiatrist for 200,000 people. The accepted norm is 1 : 10,000

Which type of submission are you sharing?

  • Sharing an actual pivot your organization has already made

Describe the business pivot or adaptation in 3-4 sentences.

We have launched dedicated tele-psychiatry services with effect from April 1, 2020 and are actively reaching out to people in need. The services are manned by a team of psychiatrists and clinical psychologists. At present , we have a national helpline number so that people in need can connect with the experts. Buoyed by the great response we are getting, we now intend to launch a mobile app so that we could provide 24 x 7 support to people in need. The idea is to serve people across the geographies with focus on developing nations where mental health services are poorly accessible. The services shall be priced between $5 and $10 We believe that this will make the mental health services within reach of the common man.
