How many times did you go to a restaurant before the covid-19 period?

In these restaurants, how many times, couldn´t you finish everything you ordered?

When you could not finish everything you ordered, how many times did you ask to take your leftovers with you?

And last but not least, how many of those times did you receive your leftovers in an eco-friendly doggy bag?

The solution: Llévatelo!

Restaurants working with Llévatelo will offer your leftovers in an eco-friendly doggy bag without having to ask for it! With Llévatelo you can enjoy your delicious leftovers later when you’re hungry again or help hungry people in need by offering them your leftovers!

Llévatelo wants to solve this food waste problem by offering a win-solution to ALL involved parties.

For the customer, receiving leftovers without having to ask (or feel ashamed) for it in an eco-friendly doggy bag

For the restaurants, as they will save money buying Llévatelo doggy bags (0,05 eurocent/ doggy bag instead of the regular market price of 0,18 eurocent), enhancing their customer service and receiving more visibility through the physical eco-logo to showcase, as well as the virtual eco-logo on apps such as Glovo, Yelp, Tripadvisor and El Tenedor.

For the sponsors, enhancing their brand imagine for 0,45/doggy bag for which sponsors will see their logo in return on the doggy bags. They are key for Llévatelo to enable the economic price which restaurants will pay for the Llévatelo doggy bags. As Llévatelo believes that restaurants who want to be more eco-friendly should not have to pay more for doing the right thing, no they should be rewarded instead! 

Though the idea of Llévatelo can be fully functional once the covid-19 period is over, Llévatelo wants to start having an impact already NOW!

How?

By offering the eco-friendly, compostable doggy bags to the restaurants. This way, restaurants will be able to keep delivering their delicious food in an eco-friendly doggy bag while saving money and the planet.

What is the need are you focusing on?

Did you know that food waste alone generates about 8% of Global Greenhouse Gas Emissions. Spain, the country I live in and which is currently suffering the hardest of the EU-members under the corona crisis, ranks seventh among the EU Member States that produce most food waste, in absolute figures, with 7.7 million tons a year, according to figures published by the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries, Food and Environment. This has an estimated cost of 3 billion euros a year. And all this while around 43 million people in the EU cannot afford a quality meal every second day.

Tourism in Spain was the third major contributor to national economic life after the industrial and the business/banking sectors, contributing about 10–11% of Spain's GDP. We have to find ways to help this sector survive this crisis so when we can go out again, there will be still restaurants to go to.

Describe the business pivot or adaptation in 3-4 sentences.

Eco-friendly bags already exist but are more expensive than their cheap plastic counterparts. Food waste campaigns already exist but are not reaching the people while they are eating. Llévatelo is bringing the puzzle pieces together. Offering eco-friendly doggy bags to the restaurants for an affordable price of 0,05 eurocent/ doggy bag (instead of the regular market price of 0,18 eurocent) by leveraging sponsors to pay 0,45/doggy bag for which sponsors will see their logo in return on the doggy bags. Further raises Llévatelo awareness regarding food waste by offering the customer their paid leftovers and options of what to do with them. Llévatelo wants to solve these problems: 1. Minimize CO2 emission by reducing food waste, as it alone generates about 8% of Global Greenhouse Gas Emissions (Stenmarck, Jensen, Quested, & Moates, 2016) and no plastic doggy bags 2. Reducing feelings of shame as clients will receive their leftovers automatically. Giving every leftover a second chance to be eaten: - By the client when hungry again - By a hungry soul in the street 3. 43 million people in the EU cannot afford a quality meal every second day. Tips on the doggy bags to reduce the problem: What to do with your leftovers? - Give it to a hungry soul on the street. Did not find anyone? Don´t worry! The bright color of Llévatelo´s doggy bags makes spotting them easy. Leave your Llévatelo doggy bag next to a trash can so hungry stomachs can find your leftovers. - Take it with you, to eat it later when you are hungry again. 4. Give more attention to the food waste problem within people´s existing go-out-habits.

What do you think are the main barriers to implementing this solution?

My current barriers are finding the time to work on this initiative apart from my full-time job, finding the first sponsor, obtaining the right restaurant contact who can make the decision to change their current doggy bags to Llévatelo´s doggy bags.
