Creative Xchange is a platform which uses data and technology to establish a fair and transparent market for live music booking. Over the past year we have helped artists across multiple states earn substantial portion of their monthly income by getting booked via Creative Xchange. 

As the lockdown started we had to evaluate the long term and short term possibilities and came up with the following plan:

  1. Continue working on long term bookings like corporate events and weddings.
  2. Develop a plan for short term which enhances the business model, brings revenue and has a strong growth potential beyond the shelter at home . Learn with Creative Xchange was born out of that need. 


Learn with Creative Xchange is a solution for students to discover and learn from full-time  musicians. An important qualification of the teachers is that they have to be full-time professional musicians who earn their livelihood from performance, teaching or producing music.

Some of the leading features of our learning platform are 

  • Time boxed learning goals. 
  • Instructor and student performances to student selected audience.
  • Driven towards performing music  and not just acquiring skills.
  • Interaction with community , both peers and instructors to perform ad-hoc jam sessions. 


Our learning solution brings a synchronous experience of learning to play and learning to perform. Born as an online solution we have a unique opportunity to design an experience which enables the instructors  to effectively design course content , handle payments and scheduling instead of having to learn multiple tools and platforms. It also provides them the familiarity of using a system that they were already using to book their gigs and manage finances.For the instructor 


For students, the course design is geared towards developing them as skilled musicians and performers. The student journey has timely goals which are shared online performance with the instructors. This increases accountability on both sides. The coursework which does not require the involvement of an instructor is available to them with appropriate assignments. This enables them to self pace learning through the week before their weekly touch-points with the instructor. 

Our roadmap has a rich community experience which lets students and instructors interact in a safe collaborative environment. Eventually good performers who have gone through the training on Creative Xchange will join the platform as performers.

What is the need are you focusing on?

The need for balanced online education which effectively combines self-paced and 1-on-1 modes of learning is where we are stepping in. A majority of solutions (products or ad-hoc processes) that schools and students are currently utilizing attempt to replicate the offline experience in an online environment. Instructors who have based their livelihood on in-person education in a physical space are finding it hard to adapt the same experience to an online environment. We are bridging the gap on both sides to ensure a consistent learning experience which will be effective even after the shelter-in-place directives are scaled back.

The adaptation includes developing and implementing the learning features within the Creative Xchange platform. The instructors (already signed up on Creative Xchange as live music performers) will see an added module within their in-platform experience. The new set of users will be students who are looking to acquire or build upon their music performance skills.

Throughout history, music has been a constant link within and between civilizations. The permanence of the art form in humanity is not questionable. Which brings us to the question what role will music play in the future of humanity. Because of the advancements in computation today, abstract problems are the only problems that will be left to solve in the future. Solutions will have to be interdisciplinary and creative. Music is one such discipline that bridges the gap between the definite and abstract. We expect in the years to come the consumption, understanding of music and consequently music education will become mainstream. A solution that is conceptualized and built for the new connected reality we live in now will create the framework for all learning experiences. We hope to be that solution.

Creative Xchange is a platform with a mission to make musicians sustainable income by developing technology solutions for music booking, teaching and production. Our initial goal was to make the live music booking market transparent and fair. By offering technology backed promotions to local businesses who book musicians , we help them translate dollars spent into revenue earned in terms of customer retention and acquisition. They have started seeing music as valuable proposition and not just a nice to have. We are really interested to talk to schools and school districts to offer our solution to students.

What do you think are the main barriers to implementing this solution?

-We will have the initial problems of getting traction for the solution. -We will need to implement the video learning experience in a safe and secure solution. -The need for verified providers will slow us down getting our pool of artists available as teachers

If you are currently working on a pivot, what have you learned so far?

1. During initial days of lockdown, though we had started working on this solution we did not realize that a lot of existing teachers could not teach their students at all. The problem was bigger than we thought it was. 2. On deeper dive into developing our video solution we have realized how important it was to have a completely in platform experience to reduce switching overhead.

Are you aware of any open source efforts, hackathons or other collaborative efforts related to your solution? Are you participating in these efforts?

Though there is nothing directly in the same space as us there are quite a few solutions for online learning . We are looking at them to learn from their implementations to see what works and what doesn't.

Outstanding Saswat Patnaik & team; best of luck on quickly validating new assumptions and adapting to the current market.
I'd also love to enroll as a student and practice music in order to, as you say, "bridge the gap between the definite and abstract."
