In a locked-down world, the feeling of helplessness can be overwhelming but we can all use our computers to defeat the virus from the comfort of our homes. So, we are designing a mobile application named ‘COVID WAR’ in our local language (Bangla) with an aim to improve people’s knowledge of the COVID-19 pandemic and beyond. The mobile game will allow the user to take a journey where he/she will play the role of ‘virus detective’ and fight against the virus. Each stage will be based on different cases or situations where the user has to find a clue that will equip him/her to stop the pandemic. Throughout the game, we will educate the user by providing them health massages while they are playing the game. Also, this will not only educate people on how to change their behavior but also help them to explore the contents with adventure. To increase the interest and engagement levels, case stories will be given on the situation where people are getting affected by the virus epidemic and they have to solve those cases to stop them. This will ideate a user on the dos and don'ts protocol during the pandemic.

On completion of each level, users can share the score or achievements with their friends and also challenge them. In addition, they can also share their achievement on social media or can use effect (avatar) on their profile pictures. When a user answers the question correctly, they will earn points and badges. We will give prizes to the top player each week.

What is the need are you focusing on?

Despite the continuous effort by traditional health care campaigns, citizens lack critical knowledge of understanding the highly contagious COVID-19. This is evident in Bangladesh observing their behavior. Orthodox methods, tools, and communications mediums are proven inadequate to trigger behavioral changes among citizens’ Therefore, many people are often going out while not following the healthy guidelines. The evident increase in the knowledge gap suggests that information needs to be shared in such a way that it will motivate people to drive their attitude and action immediately. Due to the knowledge gap, misinformation abounds in the time of the crisis. Also a huge amount of misleading information circulating online about the coronavirus. As gamified learning is a proven tool to make learning interesting, and motivate towards behavioral transformation, so this can be a great solution to mitigate the addressed gaps.

However, over the period, the technology team has been equipped with high developed skill set not only in information technology but also in the area of content development e.g. documentary, animated video, creative design, digital platform, mobile application, etc. In this pandemic situation, we, therefore, planning to pivot the technology team, and focusing more on developing behavioral change communication contents for the public good; in order to improve their health awareness.

The mobile game application will first improve knowledge and awareness on COVID-19 among the citizens, mainly the youth. Almost everyone is staying at home right now so that they have much time for internet surfing and consequently the number of users will be increased. This gaming solution will cover all these citizens using the internet as the beneficiary, and give them a challenge by putting them in a virtual war against COVID-19.
