A connected device (stick) that can be sent to home, in quantities that is needed for the number of household members. The tip of the device can be used to swab your nose, the kit is pre-filled with reagents. The kit can be initiated to do the testing, can determine and digitally report Covid-19 results to the user as well as health department officials. In case of positive status, with patients consent, their primary care doctor and hospital can be informed for further action. The kit can be evolved for re-use applications by replacing the tips.

What is the need are you focusing on?

I am focusing on immediate need for testing for Covid-19. With the need for social distancing, there are number of people that need to get tested but are vulnerable, compromised and cannot travel to get tested, because they cannot afford to go to crowded places. Right now at testing places, it is a long line, and there are not many testing facilities, its  usually crowded so there is no social distancing. Also, people generally don't know when and where the testing kits will be available, when they visit. To prevent this, if people are sent home kits, then they are most likely going to take it, it helps people maintain social distancing, and know if they are positive or negative. This will also capture in real-time test results and track the patients.

What do you think are the main barriers to implementing this solution?

Encouraging people to do the test correctly and accurately will be a challenge. Given the current situation, I am sure a lot of people would be happy to take the test and be relieved to know the results, but getting to do the test accurately is key. It has to be simple. Privacy issues need to be addressed as well, so that the data is secure.

Hello @Nandini Lakshminarayanan. Thank you for sharing your idea. The concept and visual reference are interesting. There's no doubt in home testing would be both useful and reassuring. It seems you've identified three problems to solve on the user's side....how to do the test correctly, gain assurance it's accurate, and be confident about the handling of personal data generated. How might you envision reassuring us your product would solve those issues? Thank you! Susan
