Many lessons can be extracted from this story. The simple act of treating prisoners as collaborators had unexpected results. In the same way, everyone involved in spearheading local initiatives will need to be empowered with the tools and support to participate fully in the process and be able to respond with ideas as circumstances change. In addition, for participants to stay engaged and enthusiastic they should be able to understand how their individual initiatives fit into the larger picture. http://blogs.evergreen.edu/sustainableprisons/

Great analogy around empowerment and inclusiveness, Sylvia!
