I like books and beer, you like books and beer - HEY! We can be friends!

I was reading about this cool gathering called BOOKS & BEER. Its a book swap event, where people who like books and/or beer can meet. Who doesn't like books or beer... at least one of them or both!?

I think the typical big challenge in getting a community or club to start/grow right at the early stage is to:
1.  Attract people who have similar interests & passions
2.  Give them an easy activity to break the ice
3.  Attract enough to reach a critical mass
4.  Do something fun...

Books & Beer strikes me as such a simple yet powerful concept that can appeal to such a wide range of people.  Just create the opportunity for people to meet and befriend one another - lower the barrier to friendship and make it easy to find things in common!  This is useful in a country where meeting people spontaneously, striking up a conversation, etc, is still something quite new and takes some getting used to.

Can't agree more that engaging in the activities you enjoy with people who share the same interests is a great way to break the ice. I have a similar concept which I'll share in the concepting phase, on how sharing tasks encourages more interactions. We could build on that together!
