Have you ever been curious about what the other commuters listen to in their earphones? Curious enough to ask them if you can eavesdrop?

Buy 2 extension cords for stereo earphones. carry them with you in your pocket.
The next time you sit on a bus or a train and someone near you are also listening to music, ask them if you can connect and StereoPod!

Tell them to keep a steady grip on their mp3-player/phone, lower the volume. You lower the volume on your mp3-player (this step is to prevent hearing damage)
Take out the first extension cord, connect your mp3-player/phone to their earphones. Take out the other extension cord, connect your earphones, and give the plug to your "partner", so they can connect it to their mp3-player/phone (this is for trust, so that you do not behave as if you are about to steal their mp3-player/phone)

Ask if the volume is good, communicate with thumb signals to indicate if you wish to hear little louder. See my other concept proposal on Designing high-fives / salutes

If you like a song, ask what the name of the artist is! (with hand signals, or write it down for each other)
There are existing "splitters" and "Y-adapters" on the market, but then you need to be close friends with the one you share the music with, since it will be a risk of getting your mp3-player stolen if you share with a stranger.
for bus stops, airports and train stations you could install these in wall behind benches in waiting terminals.
bus company or train company could install such extension cords in the pipes and tubing that run in the ceiling, that you hold when standing up during the ride.
Perhaps you could also install into benches at playground so that parents and nannies can share some music while they watch their kids play?
Perhaps you could also install in benches at the dog park, for the pet owners?

How does your concept inspire collaboration between individuals, private sector organisations, and the government in an effort to create cleaner neighbourhoods?

discuss other peoples preferences in music (culture) — Connect!

How might your concept be scaled in a way that creates even more connections between people?

bus company or train company could install extension cords by the seats or in the metal pipes/tubing that are in the ceiling?

How might you design a small experiment around your concept that would mobilise action?

I have bought extension cords, will bring them on next train trip!

This is an interesting idea, but are you worried that some might consider this an invasion of their privacy?
