Who doesn’t like a good pat on the back or a reward for a job well done? Also friendly competition adds fun and excitement to any task. Thus let’s develop a process to recognize & reward people for taking action and to enable friendly competition.

CONCEPT: People are coming up with great ideas to make Singapore a better place. To engage the Singaporean community to take action on these ideas, I suggest the Singaporean government develop a website to communicate the various projects/events focused on making Singapore better. The site will allow people to create accounts so they can track their participation. Participation earns points. High scoring participants will be “recognized” by having their account (with picture if desired) on the homepage. Additionally, companies can sponsor projects via providing gift certificates or cash. The gift certificates/cash will go to the high scoring participants. Incentives for companies to sponsor are: good branding opportunity, support projects/events that improve their business directly/indirectly or good social responsibility opportunity.

· At each event/project, a process needs to be in place so people can get points for participation

Other ideas:

· Weekly local news (print & TV) broadcast information on the latest “projects” and shows the top scoring participants

· Add a “Challenge” function so people can invite friends to complete a project with them; user will get points for each person he/she invites that ends up participating in the project

· Link to social media sites (facebook, google+, LinkedIn, Pinterest, etc) for more opportunities to educate the public on projects/events and to further “recognize” top-scoring participants

How does your concept inspire collaboration between individuals, private sector organisations, and the government in an effort to create cleaner neighbourhoods? brings together all parties and provides incentives for each party to act. Individuals receive recognition & rewards for participation. Companies (private and public) are offered the opportunity to sponsor projects/events that can enhance their branding or social responsibility goodwill. Government benefit from actions of its citizens and strengthen its relationships with companies.

How might your concept be scaled in a way that creates even more connections between people?

As more people use, the news spreads on the recognition & rewards offered for participating, which should drive more connections/participation.

How might you design a small experiment around your concept that would mobilise action?

Relatively quick to develop a simple website. Pick one of the great ideas being developed to make Singapore a better place as a pilot. Have the Singaporean government blitz the media with the pilot details. Run the pilot and get lessons learned/best practices so can improve process.
