COL Jamie Blow, Director of the US Army's Armed Forces Pest Management Board, describes the need for better vector control and personal protection to #CombatZika.

"...there hasn't been a whole lot of change in 25 year, imagine if we have the tools and capabilities to identify where these mosquitoes are and quickly break the chain of transmission. The hardest part of my job is often identifying where the vector is..."

"Topical repellents and permethrin treated clothing only works as long as you are wearing them...imagine if in 10 years you get new clothing and its not treated with anything but due to the weave or something in the fabric the insects are no longer attracted to you, maybe its like a cloaking device from a Klingon ship..."

Infants and small children might be at a greater risk of harmful effects of chemically-treated clothing, so I think it's a great idea to think about a certain fabric (perhaps fabricated from a plant that is a natural repellant?) or type of breathable weave that deters the vector from having contact with the skin!
