The Invasive Mosquito Project (IMP) is a public education and national mosquito monitoring program at the USDA that partners local professionals with high school teachers and community educators (summer camps, naturalists, gardeners, scouts, etc.) to teach about mosquito-borne disease and public health, provide teachers with educational materials that meet Next Generation Science Standards, and create community outreach opportunities that benefits mosquito control/public health agencies. The IMP website ( provides connections, resources, and information.  Partnered citizen science is different than the typical crowd sourced citizen science because the expertise, experience, and enthusiasm of a professional or expert in the field supports the educator. The yearly mosquito species collection data will be used to generate mosquito species distribution maps for each year and cumulative distributions for each species.  The project will inform public and policy makers of the distribution of vector species so they can better target surveillance and prevention resources prior to an outbreak situation.
