Mass Distribution & Treatment with "Mosquito Dunks"

Widely distribute "mosquito dunks" (Bti) that prevent mosquitoes from growing in stagnant water.

Mosquito dunks are composed of Bacillus thuringiensis strain israelensis (Bti). Bti is a naturally occurring bacteria that kills mosquitoes and black flies but leaves other insects unharmed. When dropped in standing water, mosquito dunks kill the mosquito larvae as they feed.

I propose the mass distribution and/or subsidization of mosquito dunks for personal, household, and community protection. I also suggest that we treat large standing bodies of water such as ponds and lakes.

Note how this Lake Placid community uses Bti on a recurring annual basis to treat its black fly problem: http://www.northelba.org/?page=services/black-fly-control-dept

Quick update! NYC is now spraying marshlands and urban wetlands with Bti via helicopter.
