Lauren Singer, 23, started her zero waste journey two years ago. She has always been an environmental advocate and pursued environmental studies at New York University and took a job as a sustainability manager for the New York City Department of Agriculture. However, she decided to greater her efforts to create a sustainable lifestyle by only producing a mason jar’s worth of trash.
She was inspired by a family in California calling themselves the Zero Waste Home. She thought to herself, " If they can do it, so can I."
The reason she's an effective innovator is because it is anti-innovation. She is taking a concept that is so incredibly simple and implementing it in every day life. There is no new invention, no app or mechanism, all she did was make a decision.
Her blog documents her “zero waste journey” and she hopes it will “show that leading a zero waste lifestyle is simple, cost-effective, timely, fun and entirely possible for everyone and anyone,” she said on her blog. “If I can do it, anyone can!”
