Trash is for Tossers: Meet Lauren Singer

A mason jar filled with trash over a two year span is a challenge we all should try.

Lauren Singer, 23, started her zero waste journey two years ago. She has always been an environmental advocate and pursued environmental studies at New York University and took a job as a sustainability manager for the New York City Department of Agriculture. However, she decided to greater her efforts to create a sustainable lifestyle by only producing a mason jar’s worth of trash.

She was inspired by a family in California calling themselves the Zero Waste Home. She thought to herself, " If they can do it, so can I."

The reason she's an effective innovator is because it is anti-innovation. She is taking a concept that is so incredibly simple and implementing it in every day  life. There is no new invention, no app or mechanism, all she did was make a decision.

Her blog documents her “zero waste journey” and she hopes it will “show that leading a zero waste lifestyle is simple, cost-effective, timely, fun and entirely possible for everyone and anyone,” she said on her blog. “If I can do it, anyone can!”

Where is this innovation/innovator located at? Be as specific as you can (country and city).

I am a storyteller and connector. The best thing for me, is to be introduced to a community of leaders and innovators that are making efforts to make the world a better place.
