Stainless steel drinking straw in individual key-sized stainless steel container. Telescopic design allows extension to full-length when in use.

  • Always on your person as attached to keys
  • Removes need to plan ahead
  • Removes need to carry full-length straw in bag - not cumbersome
  • Hygienic as protected from surrounding environment
  • Eliminates problems with dripping post-use as contained in stainless steel container
  • Ergonomic - size mimics that of standard plastic straws. Avoids issues associated with poor sizing as found in e.g. bamboo alternatives
  • Washable, reusable, plastic-free

Idea Title

TeleStraw

Company / Organization Name

N/A

Where are you / your team located?

Plymouth, United Kingdom

How does this Idea redesign unrecyclable small format plastic items that often end up as waste?

Personal ownership of stainless steel alternative removes necessity or desire to accept plastic drinking straws from establishments. Product will last indefinitely - the production of one TeleStraw has the potential to halt the use of plastic straws for the entirety of the consumer's lifetime.

Which use cases does your Idea apply to?

Case 3: straws and take-away coffee lids

In what geographical context or area does your Idea plan to operate / solve?

Global.

How do you envision scaling up your Idea?

Product will be subject to consumer purchasing patterns. Current producers of plastic drinking straws will not benefit from this product. Product will offer an alternative within the marketplace which will have to be actively selected for by the consumer.

At what stage of development is your Idea?

  • Research & Early Testing: You are exploring an idea, gathering inspiration and information needed to test it with real users.

Please describe how becoming a Top Idea and working with the Think Beyond Plastics Accelerator Program will help to accelerate your solution.

Prototypes must be constructed, testing for design, manufacture, durability, usability and price. Prototypes must be subject to consumer feedback and alterations made if necessary. Products must be released onto marketplace for competitive price and with sufficient advertising. Sale of this product alone would qualify as success, as each unit sold would signal the end of plastic straw usage by the individual consumer. Surplus time and resources would be piled into further alternatives.

Please describe from where your Idea emerged

Individual idea.

I had the same idea. There is a real need for this. Everyone should have one. It is vital to stop using plastic straws. This is a good solution. I hope it can be manufactured.
