Pure Pouch

We thought to change the approach no added straw no cap uses 90% less plastic after use is ground up into a raw material for other products.

Pure Pouch was originally designed as a refill for your reusable water bottle, it can also be drunk straight out of the pouch by simply pearcing the straw tip with a paper clip, tooth pic or similar. The concept around the pouch is to reduce the carbon footprint created from using PET by offering a LOCAL product-distribution-recycle network whilst maintaining a fresh supply from local sources at the lowest cost and lowest environmental impact.

We have adopted a full reuse policy from the cradle to the grave for all of our packaging, we accept back all our clean plastic, (we have had this specially developed for us). The used pouches can be ground up and reused as a raw material for making other new plastic articles.

The Boxes are designed A4 modular and can be reused in a number of ways, document storage etc, all fully compostable with a wax paper liner for product safety and later as an event manager ie, carry water in, take organic wastes out and buried. The box is made of a renewable and recycled resource with minimal bio-ink used.

Idea Title

Company / Organization Name

We are a registered company in New Zealand, Body of Water Ltd We are trading under the brand name Pure Pouch

Where are you / your team located?

we are in Warkworth, Auckland, New Zealand

How does this Idea redesign unrecyclable small format plastic items that often end up as waste?

By simply removing them. In order to change the outcome we have to change the approach and our habits.

Which use cases does your Idea apply to?

I believe that our approach applies all of the cases.

In what geographical context or area does your Idea plan to operate / solve?

The low set-up and implementation cost means that the concept can be established at any source. The recycling or reuse aspect is suited to larger populated areas with the resources and requirement for reusing the product.

How do you envision scaling up your Idea?

The production of this packaging is very simplistic and cost effect, the film is able to be manufactured in most major centers. Yet to trial other products. Major hurdle people don't like changing their habits!

At what stage of development is your Idea?

  • Piloting: You have started to implement your solution as a whole with a first set of real users. You may have started to develop a business model for your idea, including identifying key customer segments, relevant partnerships, go-to-market strategy, and draft financials.

Please describe how becoming a Top Idea and working with the Think Beyond Plastics Accelerator Program will help to accelerate your solution.

Develop and implement market strategies on education both on packaging and water. Further refine and develop the pre-made straw concept Develop new packaging solutions for other product. Automate and upgrade our existing production system. Support others in reproducing the concept.

Please describe from where your Idea emerged

We have really awesome water here on our property, lots of our friends would come and fill up their containers, seems good drinking water is getting harder to find with some people driving 50klms to fill up. I started to research about water, it's packaging, the transport miles of a single use water bottle and then there was the recycling! I was absolutely shocked and horrified with what I found out so I set about researching for alternatives that would produce a triple bottom line outcome.

Tell us about your work experience

My passion encompasses all of the above, I am dedicated in finding Eco-solutions, In comprehending and copying nature we co-create a world of harmony.

Please describe your legal and organizational structure

In my childhood beer was sold form the tap to the plastic bag ( your design would be make beer lovers much happier then.) - seems strange but worked perfectly to tranfer beer form the brewery to home.
PS We even had a popular song - ''I am on my way home with bag of beer, but htere is small hole in the bag so I must hurry up''. That is something what I think is good to consider - offer customers some quick fix in case of bag puncture - sticky tape, maybe?

Hi Irina, Our pouch is very strong and robust, I can stand on it (72kg) with one foot only and it wont burst! Drop it kick it it can go through a lot. We have been asked to see if other beverages could be suitable for concerts and gatherings? Yet to trial.
