There are two major barriers to zero waste regarding food:
- 1st is the very low number of shops offering bulk and when they do, the very narrow offer of bulk products.
- Going bulk means cooking - everyone knows that families are loosing their habit to cook because it is time consuming.
The Local Bulk Food Drive Service intend to remedy to both barriers and encourage people to move towards zero waste in the kitchen.
- 1/ Maximize the bulk offering and make it available in one place or delivered at home directly
The service will inventory local producers / farmers / suppliers ready to provide all bulk food and deal with them directly.
For fresh products, local and seasonal products will be prioritized - their availability will be know a week in advance. But others products will be available also to also a large variety of recipe.
To minimize infrastructure cost of the service, we imagine that the service will be mobile. Using electric trucks, orders will be collected at producers / suppliers own storage facilities and distributed directly on the same day to customers. A fleet of small vehicle will be optimized according to the distribution areas and the number of customers. Flexible enough to grow as the customer base is growing.
- 2/ Facilitate the transition from prepared menus to home cooked menus
People, like me, don't cook because we have no idea what to cook, we don't know how to cook... We are overwhelmed by the number of app that offer an outrageous amount of recipes...
Together with the Service we will develop and application that will link available fresh foods of the week to simple recipes - only 3 to 4 different recipes chosen among the easiest and quickest to cook and the most popular regarding taste.
The app will even be able to propose a full week set of menus according to your basic tastes, and nutritional needs.
Once you've selected the day or week menus, the shopping list is automatically generated taking into account the number of person in the family.
After payement, it is send to the Drive Service.
For people who do cook or those who prefer to choose their own recipes, the app will allow them to directly order their shopping list.
This leaves another burden: the containers management!
We will partner with one or several local suppliers. For their 1st order, customers will pay for the containers they will get. For their 2nd order and after, they will either receive money back if returning more containers than needed for their new order or pay an extra in the other case.
Containers will be wash by another professional partner.
