Conceptos Plasticos is a company with environmental, social and economic impact focused on circular economy. We educate and promote behavior change in waste disposal, we involve communities of recyclers in logistics and we improve their revenues by generating value in plastics that today Do not market, and then close the cycle of plastic by transforming these recycled plastics into alternative construction systems to generate positive impacts and reduce the housing deficit of developing countries.

Idea Title

Houses made of recycled plastic, from negative environmental impact to positive social change

Company / Organization Name

Conceptos Plasticos

Where are you / your team located?

Colombia / Bogota

How does this Idea redesign unrecyclable small format plastic items that often end up as waste?

Over time, we have developed numerous formulations of mixtures of plastics that allow us to obtain different results in terms of physical and mechanical behavior of the products for construction made from recycled plastics. Multilayer packaging, products that mix plastics in their production process, sachets, small format plastics, and other types of plastics that lose their value at the end of their useful life because they are not easy to recover are our raw material

Which use cases does your Idea apply to?

Case 1, single use sachets Case 2, Bottle caps and tear off and Case 3, Straws and take away coffe lids We can even make a mixture of these three cases to make our formulation (with some other plastics and additives that we use)

In what geographical context or area does your Idea plan to operate / solve?

We manufacture in Colombia, and we have exported solutions to 5 countries in Latin America to open doors in these markets, the idea is to replicate in each region where the plastic is a serious problem and have not enough houses, alsoAfrica and Asia

How do you envision scaling up your Idea?

Replicating the production process is simple finding local partners preferably having a relationship with recycling, the barriers are always normative in terms of the use of structural plastics in homes but we have overcome them, also sometimes there are no rules of extended responsibility of the producer what this does That some producers and brands go slower with support

At what stage of development is your Idea?

  • Operating Concept / Startup: You have fulfilled the stages of testing, undertaken a full scale roll-out, and are currently operating this concept/idea as a business.

Please describe how becoming a Top Idea and working with the Think Beyond Plastics Accelerator Program will help to accelerate your solution.

We are looking to replicate our model, continue to develop product and making the production process increasingly efficient and industrial scale, we want to find the best allies in each region interested in closing the cycle of plastics, generating solutions from the negative impact of plastic, We seek relationships with governments and companies to be able to progress faster with the expansion of our solution making affordable housing for people at the base of the pyramid

Please describe from where your Idea emerged

It was an idea that started as a thesis of a mastery, and then developed with the participation of more people within a team, started as a business idea that evolved to a model of social and environmental impact where now is the main reason to continue , We are in constant evolution due to our commitment to the environment and vulnerable communities with social, environmental and economic impact
