This idea pretends to replace the conventional coffee lids which are simply push it against the cup and then is locked. By using threads in the design of the coffee cap/lid we secure that it will remain attached to the cup once is dispose and also will secure the beverage from spilling just as the conventional coffee lids do.

The market of this idea will be all the takeaway coffee consumers and the coffee shops that offer this takeaway service.

Idea Title

Where are you / your team located?

How does this Idea redesign unrecyclable small format plastic items that often end up as waste?

Many times the consumer dispose their cups with the lid attached together, but when the waste is being transported the lids can fall apart easily. The threads will help mantaining the cap for longer.

Which use cases does your Idea apply to?

Case 3

In what geographical context or area does your Idea plan to operate / solve?

It will start in Mexico with high potentical to be replicated globally mainly in the biggest coffee consumer regions which are North America and most of Europe.

How do you envision scaling up your Idea?

Obstacles -Price of this cap -Rigid coffee cup and lid requiemements so that the threads can actually secure the cap -Resistance to chance How to overcome it -Low number of threads to easily secure the cap to the cup -Local waste management regulations on plastic waste for coffee shops

At what stage of development is your Idea?

  • Research & Early Testing: You are exploring an idea, gathering inspiration and information needed to test it with real users.

Please describe how becoming a Top Idea and working with the Think Beyond Plastics Accelerator Program will help to accelerate your solution.

-Team building -Prototype design -Manufacturer selection to fabricate this cap -Prototype testing before launching pilot project -Local coffee shop selection to take the trial -Coffee cup tracking all the way down to the recycling factories to monitor the effectiviness of the thread cap (complex evaluation) -Results evaluation and improvements of the product -Scale up lauching -Final results and evaluation

Please describe from where your Idea emerged

It emerged when thinking why does the coffee lids always end up separated from the cup. I compared this coffee lids with the plastic bottle caps and I thought, why don't we have a cap with threads for coffee cups. Contrary to plastic bottle caps, coffee lids do not need to be open and close over a over again in order to drink (that's why they have a drinking hole on top). They just have to be opened at the beginning if the consumer would like to add sugar/cream/milk to his beverages.
