How does this Idea redesign unrecyclable small format plastic items that often end up as waste?

The images explain everything. Our idea is to avoid the small plastic .So we redesign the water bottle caps such they are attached and there is only small change to the original design.

Which use cases does your Idea apply to?

This solution helps for the use case where bottle caps are not recycled .

How do you envision scaling up your Idea?

Only obstacle i see the use of extra plastic for the ring part.We have to make sure the cap holder is made from bio degradable material or if are using plastic make sure it is used to its minimum.

At what stage of development is your Idea?

  • Research & Early Testing: You are exploring an idea, gathering inspiration and information needed to test it with real users.

Please describe from where your Idea emerged

This idea came from my dad while we are brain storming to reduce plastic around us.

Tell us about your work experience

My area of work is mainly research and writing.

Please describe your legal and organizational structure

I think your design for the bottle cap that stays on is really good and if it is long enough to come off top of the bottle when using the bottle I could see it work very well, great. Best regards, BB

Hi Kate Rushton  , archana chowdary
I believe the two main questions with both designs (this and my Save a life cap - Stay on cap & Baby cap design) are :
1. The material between the ring and cap: if it's the same as the cap, it might be too rigid; if it's too soft, it won't enable us to turn both cap and ring at the same time. Hence I believe the perfect material would be something similar as a tie zip.
2. The length of the link between ring and cap: if it's too short, it uses less plastic material but probably alter customer experience. To detect the perfect length that uses only the necessary amount of extra material in order not to alter customer experience, we need to do some product testing. But I would consider that as advanced stage.

Hi Archana,

Great to see another idea from you! Have you checked out these other ideas in the challenge - Save a life cap - Stay on cap & Baby cap and LEASH-THE-LID ? Maybe you could compare ideas and learn from each other?

I look forward to seeing more of your ideas in the challenge. Have you thought about how you could reduce the amount of plastic used or eliminate the use of small format plastic packaging by designing without small format plastic packaging?
