Our proposal stands for Automatized refill stations, in which you can provide reusable containers in order to refill them with your regular cleaning products (Such as Shampoo, deodorant, body lotion, shower gel, etc.), generating a reduction in packaging costs for the user of these products.

This kind of system was inspired by bulk distribution of grains, system which goes from small marketplaces in small towns to big supermarkets in the big cities. The idea we're trying to sell is "When you stop using new plastic packaging, you're saving money", also the idea is to provide to the costumers not only savings but also easier ways to get their products since they will have the option of buying the quantity they need or the quantity equivalent for the ammount of money they count with at the moment (e.g. You'll get the chance to buy either 20 ml of shampoo or $1 USD worthy shampoo).

What we want to promote with this iniciative is for people to reuse their own containers, customized containers or even rent a plastic container instead of buying the shampoo with the overprice of sachets and generating every time new solid wastes, which end up in the landfill.

Company / Organization Name

Currently we're not a company, neither an organization, we want to create by this project an entrepreneurship involved in creating environme

Where are you / your team located?

Bogotá, Colombia.

How does this Idea redesign unrecyclable small format plastic items that often end up as waste?

By selling the "Refill Stations" system to companies, we create an opportunity for them to reduce packaging costs and provide a solution of distributing the neat content of the sachets instead. This savings for the company provide also savings for the user of these products. Also, for the consummer it's been created the idea of eliminating plastic wastes or disposable containers for everyday use products, creating at the same time a "plastic free culture"

Which use cases does your Idea apply to?

"Single use sachets for liquid consumer products"

In what geographical context or area does your Idea plan to operate / solve?

Our context guided us to project the system for using in a wide range of options, which go from local marketplaces in open spaces to big scale supermarkets. It can be adapted for every kind of consummer and plaza. Inspired in a big city like Bogota,

At what stage of development is your Idea?

  • Research & Early Testing: You are exploring an idea, gathering inspiration and information needed to test it with real users.

Please describe how becoming a Top Idea and working with the Think Beyond Plastics Accelerator Program will help to accelerate your solution.

Our main goal is to find a way in which the system can be sustainable and generates enough resources to find a balance between the benefits offered to the participating companies and the benefits offered to the consumers, without mentioning the environmental image and educational factor it will provide to people in places where recycling culture is not as big, as it's Colombia's case

Please describe from where your Idea emerged

Our idea came out during the workshop "OpenIDEO Ideathon" developed in Bogotá. The topic was "how to reduce plastic wastes from daily products" so we chose this idea since it has a huge growth potential, application and it can be used to potentiate similar ideas developed in the OpenIdeo web portal.

Tell us about your work experience

We are a very interdisciplinary and functional team, conformed by 2 industrial designers, 1 environmental engineer, 1 telecommunications engineer and a civil engineer.

Please describe, in depth, how your solution will reduce the overall environmental footprint of packaging.
