Slabs of solid (bar) shampoos, soaps and detergents can be sold to local shops where they can be cut into single use sizes for sale. Companies could apply their logo directly on the soap. This could be a great marketing tool for companies in areas where no sachet collection/recycling exists and whose sachets currently become branded litter.

Idea Title

Bare Bars

Where are you / your team located?

Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada

How does this Idea redesign unrecyclable small format plastic items that often end up as waste?

Solid bars can be placed directly into the purchasers shopping bad without any packaging and is meant to replace the single use sachet for liquid consumer soaps and detergents.

Which use cases does your Idea apply to?

In what geographical context or area does your Idea plan to operate / solve?

Countries where single use sachets are popular for daily cleaning activities such as India, Asia and South America.

How do you envision scaling up your Idea?

Ideally, it would be implemented through an existing fast moving consumer goods company that currently operates in these markets and who are interested in an alternative delivery system to the single use sachets.

At what stage of development is your Idea?

  • Research & Early Testing: You are exploring an idea, gathering inspiration and information needed to test it with real users.

Please describe how becoming a Top Idea and working with the Think Beyond Plastics Accelerator Program will help to accelerate your solution.

The opportunity to work with the New Plastics Economy Accelerator would give my idea the exposure to companies like Unilever who currently work in these markets and could implement this idea at scale.

Please describe from where your Idea emerged

This is similar to Lush Cosmetics idea of no or minimal packaging for solid soaps. If a solid product can do as good a job as a liquid product with fewer negative externalities, than the solid product should be the preferred product.
