When there is need to cross the sea, the moment allows crossing. So also the exchange of using non recyclable plastic for plant leaves, once again banana leaf can be resilient, thinly porous and flexible, yes allows for twisting so packaging is easily carried out.

Some foods would like a double wrap of the leaves so that the product will not leak, talking about foods or snacks but most of the time banana leaf will hold its contents so well that it can even be refrigerated.

Although the technical design and style of this biodegradable material requires skill and common sense to be in good shapes we might required.

Uaing this method also gears us more toward the production of banana plants thereby integrating no waste materials agriculturaly since income and nutrients are derived, unlike the small format plastic waste that also drain income away since it is not reusable.

No toxic chemicals or reactions is experienced with this method.

More advantages will be dicovered as time goes on, if the integration of this technjques is allowed to grow.

Where are you / your team located?

I am located in Lagos, Nigeria.

How does this Idea redesign unrecyclable small format plastic items that often end up as waste?

Yes, the design is based on using the old method which adds taste and aroma to our foods. Leaf will easily decompose thereby contributing to the symbiosis in soil for plants. Yet, other plants tap on this advantage for better yields as against the unrecyclable plastic which does not adds value to the soil for agricultural purposes. This leaf is used in cooking some foods in both solid and pasty forms whereas plastic will melt and become harder to degrade. Fruits are gained from this plant.

Which use cases does your Idea apply to?

Case 2 Bottle caps and tear-offs Considering Young parents and their kids in Minneapolis, MN, USA. Yes, this method can solve the problem of food packaging as it uses a natural material that would be recycled into another advantageous soil product, humus. unlike the tear-offs from tin or other unrecyclable materials used in the restaurants and parks. talking about bottle caps, a well cocky lid made with leaf or recyclable material can be used even to be tightened with tiny rubber if needs be

In what geographical context or area does your Idea plan to operate / solve?

Although the idea started locally but needs to become a worldwide area. in other to solve this global issue threatening the future of human living.

How do you envision scaling up your Idea?

To industrially develop this idea with other research entity, after which this can be professionally launched to the marketplaces. obstacles like finance and land mass for the production of this fruit plant but these can be solve through the awareness of the leaf usage and also sponsorship attractions in form of grants and or investments will do a lot of good to overcome these envisage obstacles. And it would eventually speak business.

At what stage of development is your Idea?

  • Research & Early Testing: You are exploring an idea, gathering inspiration and information needed to test it with real users.
  • Prototyping: You have conducted some small tests or experiments with prospective users and will continue developing idea through these tests.

Please describe how becoming a Top Idea and working with the Think Beyond Plastics Accelerator Program will help to accelerate your solution.

The goals are... To get this natural integration method and technique to the world at large. Getting sizable reduction of this non biodegradable materials as time moves on. Awareness of Agricultural increase of farm produce that in turn calls for employing more people. Industry development on modernization of every other natural materials, although the banana leaf remains the subject. With these goals in mind, hence more research would be done both locally and international.

Please describe from where your Idea emerged

This is an individual idea that actually emanates from the cultural style of using a certain leaf known as ewe to cook beans paste which when cooked becomes what is called Moimoi in Yoruba parts of Nigeria. But there several local snacks that falls into the leaf wrappings against the aluminum foil. So i start to think about banana leaf because it is readily clean and available locally.

Tell us about your work experience

I have not worked in design department before, but i am working as a traffic officer, and it is also about solving the inevitable traffic hitches on the country motor-able roads.

The banana leaves are used a lot in Asia too to package foods. Unfortunately it seems this is begin replaced more by plastics, maybe because of ease? Maybe it's cheaper or maybe it conserves food longer. I like the idea, but have you thought about how to compete with plastics? As it seems the banana leave has been loosing ground.
