How does this Idea redesign unrecyclable small format plastic items that often end up as waste?

The efficiency level of these problematic small format plastic items are so high that these will stay. We have to work with what we have. It will not prevent the packaging but make the materials and recycling system much more frictionless. Actually, It will reduce friction for both sides of a coin(manufacturers+dwellers) and promote recycling.

Which use cases does your Idea apply to?

LABELS/CAPS/SACHETS/TEAROFFS When I first read the problem statement I immediately got to conclusions of recycling. You know the usual like collecting bottles; tin/glass packaging, etc. Also made some ideas. Then I realized the problem was to eradicate straws, caps, labels, sachets. Yikes! When I tried finding a solution I was stunned to see how difficult the problem actually was. The problem statement was totally different than what I had perceived initially.

How do you envision scaling up your Idea?

We envision a jargonfree protocol that is self certifiable. A Voluntary Plastic Guide like FCC/CE/ISO. Something just like cars have EURO Standards. Ekbest® rating would be a guide that helps these manufacturers set up system to be socially and environmentally responsible. We want to provide manufacturers a service and not a product. Anyone willing to comply will get not only get reduced costs of manufacturing but also more customer brand approval due to Ekbest rating mark on product.

At what stage of development is your Idea?

  • Research & Early Testing: You are exploring an idea, gathering inspiration and information needed to test it with real users.
  • Prototyping: You have conducted some small tests or experiments with prospective users and will continue developing idea through these tests.

Please describe how becoming a Top Idea and working with the Think Beyond Plastics Accelerator Program will help to accelerate your solution.

We will be able to make standard templates for all formats of these packaging. Packaging that is D.F.M. ready. Permutations and combinations of plastic type and product brings about only 100 results. So 100 standard templates, will just do it. Plus these big companies are too big not sure how to handle that. But I am sure everyone is ready if they make more profit. Also for the ragpickers/or anyone for that matter. Places and rates should be set and must be extremely easy to access.

Please describe from where your Idea emerged

I realized a pattern in our problem statement; namely; Anything costing lower than 2cents is not recycled. Also everything holds or is used to hold liquid due to its waterproof nature. Straws Coffee lids Bottle caps Tearoffs Sachet All these are innovations; we have reached the epitome of ease and convenience. These thing will not roll back. We need a system and not a new product.
