Before John starts his work day, he usually buys a cup of coffee at the nearest cafe and consume it at his office work desk

The caffeine will ensure him a productive day.

However, a plastic lid is provided to ensure the coffee deliver to John's work-desk at a hygiene and convenient manner.

This causes lots of plastic waste that is not recyclable.

Under-utilised cups

What about John's mug or the cups at his office pantry?

What if these office utensils are used for John and his colleagues' coffee consumption?

Over 50% of the employees are coffee lover

Coffee (Caffeine) is commonly used by white collar workers to ensure a productive day. They spent $5 - $7 for a good cup of coffee daily.

What if the money spent by the whole office is collected to purchase freshly brewed coffee and high-quality machine for group consumption?

Bulk purchase eliminate

Freshly brewed coffee and high-quality machine are too expensive for personal consumption. Some companies also didn't supply high-quality coffee or snack to reduce cost.

What if just like signing up for a smart phone at telco company with 12 months installment plan for the device and monthly fees for mobile usage, the same principle is applied to office's coffee machine purchase and coffee supply?

A group of coffee-lover at the same office can subscribe to bulk purchase and refill the coffee and/ or purchase coffee machine through monthly installment (or partly sponsored by the company).

Therefore, instead of having to purchase coffee at the local cafe, quality coffee is already available at office pantry.

John and his colleagues can easily get their own cups or office's utensils to enjoy a good cup of coffee.

Office workers: This will lower the cost in the long run and serve as a good community of coffee lover to meet together

Retailers: Cheaper for operations if future $$ is guaranteed

Companies: Productive workers

Olanrewaju, this my first time in OpenIDEO.

You meant this idea might suit nine sigma better because they focus on business challenges and Open IDEO focus on product innovation?

Photo of olanrewaju Giwa

Yes, this is good idea, although it would have been good for nine sigma , that is re channeling or redistribution of products without using plastic
