Who is your idea designed for and how does it better support family caregivers as they care for a loved one with dementia?

The idea is designed for the care givers/ partners. It better supports family care givers by equipping them with proper basic knowledge and skills on how to cater for the loved ones with dementia.

This  form of specialized training to the care givers to care for their loved ones with dementia is through acquiring more knowledge on how to properly feed them, bath them, loving them, counselling them as they suffer things like depression, aggressiveness, stress etc. inorder to live longer than they would have lived minus care givers.

The training is to be free and easily made accessible for the care givers.

ICPDY will therefore identify care givers in the communities and then provide them with adequate training to effectively manage and care for their loved ones.

What early, lightweight experiment might you try out in your own community to find out if the idea will meet your expectations?

Questionnaires (to be initially prepared and distributed to participants) will be used to collect feedback inorder to establish the level and impact of the organization's services to provide future guidance for idea development as i look forward to yielding more better results..

What skills, input, or guidance from the OpenIDEO community would be most helpful in building out or refining your idea?

Of course feedback and guidance from OpenIDEO community in form of comments posted will help in building / refining my idea. Also support inform of collaboration with others would be helpful in refining my idea.

How long has your idea existed?

  • 0-3 months

This idea emerged from

  • A group brainstorm

Tell us about your work experience:

Sembatya,
I love the concept of offering care supporters the much needed training for them to be successful in their role. The word Dementia is fraught with negativity and I wonder if your training will include helping care supporters see the opportunity to make a difference in the lives of others through compassion, understanding and the ability to look for and recognize remaining strengths of the person. More importantly, will your training focus on things like the remaining intelligence and ability to feel emotions? I would love to hear more about your ideas surrounding these focus areas. You have a great idea here with awesome potential to make a huge difference, best of luck to you!

Sembatya, I respect your efforts to educate caregivers to improve their care support skills. Tell me, what has inspired your work? Can you talk more about the philosophy behind your project please?

Hello Anne. Thank you for the comments. In response to your question, my inspiration rose from the fact that i personally have two grand parents with the similar condition (Dementia). AND the other reason is due to the fact that many caregivers for the elderly people with the same condition in my home area lack support as they carry out the care giving role as far as Dementia is concerned.
My main aim therefore to support these care givers with the necessary support they need in order to effectively care for their loved ones with Dementia.

Hi Dear Anne, hope all is well.
Thank you for commenting on my idea. i would like to advise or suggest that since Dementia is a condition of the elderly people, perhaps you can use an image with elder people instead of those two young girls in order to portray a true picture of Dementia.
