Who is your idea designed for and how does it better support family caregivers as they care for a loved one with dementia?

The idea is designed for caregivers, who have access to the internet, and it helps them using a virtual reality gear to immerse in a virtual community of other caregivers, distant family members as well as volunteers who wish to provide emotional support to them but are unable to be physical near them.

C.A.R.E. are initials that stand for C = COMPASSION, A = ACCEPTANCE, R = RECIPROCITY and finally E = EMPATHY, the principles that characterize more than anything else the lives of those who have the boldness and courage to devote their being in the care of a loved one in dementia. These wonderful people often sacrifice a huge part of their personal lives. This can be partially balanced by helping those individuals stay connected to distant family members and friends and other caregivers as well as volunteers dedicated to their emotional support, using the immersive power of virtual reality headsets, that have become widespread in recent years (Oculus Rift, HTC Vive, Samsung VR Gear, Playstation VR, Google VR etc).

What early, lightweight experiment might you try out in your own community to find out if the idea will meet your expectations?

The establishment of a small virtual group of caregivers and some of their distant family members, friends and volunteers dedicated to their emotional support, equipped with virtual reality headsets and cameras, that are going to participate in virtual group therapy sessions.

What skills, input, or guidance from the OpenIDEO community would be most helpful in building out or refining your idea?

The programming, development and testing of virtual reality applications is going to be invaluable of course, but also of great value will be the organizational skills and the leadership of online communities.

Great idea! Have you thought about how Facebook Spaces or AltSpace VR could be used as prototyping space for something like this? Following...
