Carrotmob - Recognizing and Rewarding Corporate Behavior

"Vote With Your Money" Carrotmob offers the power to make businesses more sustainable. Instead of organizing boycotts, they offer to spend money as a group to support a business if the business agrees to make an improvement that they care about.

From the Carrotmob website:

"In a Carrotmob campaign, a group of people offers to spend their money to support a business, and in return the business agrees to take an action that the people care about. We are called Carrotmob because we use the "carrot" instead of the "stick." Traditionally, people who wanted to influence businesses would threaten or attack them. We believe people can have more influence on businesses by giving them a positive incentive to change: our money.

People want to "vote with their money" to advance their values and improve the world. We're building a website to make voting with your money easier, more effective, and more fun! Carrotmob organizers around the world have already created a growing movement."

An example in Chicago - If the mob spends $860 at Anthony's Italian Ice then the business will put !00% of the revenue toward a new, energy efficient freezer.

I realize the Carrotmob example is more about making change but perhaps the recognition aspect will inspire some related ideas.

I love this! I was just talking with management students about how you really do vote with each dollar you spend!

Thanks Beau - most voting with dollars is done without clear impact - Carrotmob tries to make the benefits quite tangible.
