Explain your project idea (2,000 characters)

The mission of WPS is: To provide a platform for publishing non-academic but significant field work performed by social impact organizations (relevant academic field work may be published as well) To provide an easy way for stakeholders to find relevant documents in the social impact sphere through an easy-to-use searchable platform To create a community of non-profit organizations, social entrepreneurs, researchers, government organizations, and individuals, focused on social impact work by having each entity act as a searchable “user” on the platform. By making information accessible, organizations and individuals will learn from one another and begin to collaborate. In most disciplines in the world, organizations collaborate! In sustainable development, most of the collaboration is only with large organizations like the UN or governments. Small players in the discipline often get overlooked. We want the voices and the work of the smaller players to be heard and shared as well. Additionally, by making everyone's work easily accessible, we hope to generate questioning and discussions amongst players on "best practices," metrics, cultural sensitivity, and many more topics.

Who are the beneficiaries? (1,000 characters)

The target audience is the global community engaged in sustainable development, including non-profits, social enterprises, researchers, government workers and individuals. The end beneficiaries are global. We believe that shared information can improve the work being implemented, which in turn improves everyone's lives!

How is your idea unique? (1,000 characters)

1) This platform/database does not currently exist. 2) Everything similar is limited in its scope. We believe that having all the information in one place is important, as one organization may want to learn about marketing tactics from another local organization that works in a different field. By having all the information browseable and searchable under one tree, users can find everything they need. 3) Our organization is built from young, incredibly motivated adults, with diverse skill sets. 4) Our team has created a timeline for reaching various stages in our project, followed by feedback from users and improvement. We realize that our idea and design is only valuable if users use it and find it useful. We have created initial surveys for organizations to get a sense of their needs in order to determine what we can offer.

Idea Proposal Stage (choose one)

  • Prototype: I have done some small tests or experiments with prospective users to continue developing the idea.

Tell us more about your organization/company (1 sentence and website URL)

World Project Share Inc.’s purpose is to provide a platform for organizing documents and other types of information related to sustainable development to make information more accessible and to facilitate collaboration between stakeholders. Initial website will be up soon. I would be happy to send in the link in the next two weeks, when it is up.

Expertise in sector

  • 1-2 years

Organization Filing Status

  • Yes, we are a registered company.
  • Other

In 3-4 sentences, tell us the inspiration or story that encouraged you to start this project.

I did a project on menstrual hygiene management in university and struggled to find information on projects being implemented. After hours of google searching, I found that many fo the projects were very similar to one another. Organizations are not working with one another or sharing information, as opposed to a field like medicine where most information is shared. Sustainable development work could be much more efficient if everyone was working together, sharing knowledge, and collaborating.

Please explain how your selected topic areas are influenced, in the local context of your project (1,000 characters).

WPS, ideally, will grow to include all topics within sustainable development. The database is broken down by categories and regions to make it easily searchable and browseable. The searchable tree that we have outlined thus far is based on the UN's breakdown of SDGs into 17 categories. Within each category, topics are further broken down into sub-topics and regional information. As previously mentioned, peace, prosperity, and planet will all be addressed on the platform, as they are all essential components to sustainable development.

Who will work alongside your organization in the project idea? (1,000 characters)

Our organization was founded just several months ago, and we currently have no partners. However, with time, we will build the relevant network.

Geographic Focus

Global! For our initial pilot of the project, we want to focus on East Africa.

How many months are required for the project idea? (500 characters)

pilot - 12 months (6 months of building the platform with documents, 6 months of gathering feedback and making changes) expansion - 24 months (we will expand the platform to include another topic every month)

Did you submit this idea to our 2017 BridgeBuilder Challenge? (Y/N)

Hi WPS !
What a nice idea to take into consideration the huge ammount of fieldwork made by non professionnal researchers and be able to share it with the world! Here are some questions that came up to my mind:
There is already a lot of different platform like academia, researchgate... that are very popular especially among the academic world, but where anyone with work to share can register and put it on the cloud. Why would it be necessary to create a new platform whereas these plateforms already count million of users? How do you imagine the user experience?
We wish you the best for this project, and don't hesitate to connect with SoScience network!
