Explain your project idea (2,000 characters)
Youth in our localities (area) are grouping themselves in violent groups of tribal and land dominance clashes, robbery and malicious activities then express their grievance through armed conflicts and confrontations. Women suffer the consequences of the social exploitation without understanding the paths and voices that seek for their dignity and justice. From our peace talks interventions in Mombasa Kenya, we realized this is caused by the youth (male and female) being idle, school dropout at lower education levels, being dissatisfied with their lives, unhappy, unfulfilled individuals, poor social relations, over driven by political regimes and traditional values which do not give them an opportunity to self-actualize. Therefore, vulnerable categories to violence radicalization recruiters are the youth and women who seek for another chance in a new life, or seek sense of justice in revenge and have a distorted view of justice.
Therefore, through WUPP we seek to be pathfinders for peace and prosperity of the grassroots communities by encouraging issues based dialogues as opposed to propaganda, collaborative seminars with different stakeholders will be employed to bring certain kinds of social change through knowledge sharing, and development of Basic employability skills training which include: Tailoring, International computer driving license (ICDL) proficiency, Baking and Pastry, Plumbing, Electrical wiring, Fabrication and Welding with Entrepreneurship as cross cutting subject and innovation projects. Women only classes will be introduced and extra activities including peace building focus groups discussions, radio talks, video shows, sports and business competitions.

How is your idea unique? (1,000 characters)
Safe learning space for women & watching training videos. Training women privately is not a practice of existing vocational training institutions in Mombasa, which brings about great impact when it comes to religious practices, stigma reduction and women empowerment discussions so they can undertake and achieve their own dignity and self or community developments.
The Basic Employability skills training model for vocational skills uniquely implements a 9 stages activities to attain individual youth / adult learning development, earning, saving and assured employment with integral mindset for self development and community prosperity.
The project will invest in reaching out to school children for peace knowledge sharing ensuring prosperity, cohesion and integration among families.
The concerted efforts towards addressing a need or problem in communities jointly with partners: seminars for quick learning, focus group discussions regionally and job linkages will be attained.

In 3-4 sentences, tell us the inspiration or story that encouraged you to start this project.
WUP project is inspired by the rising numbers of school dropouts and existence of illiterate young people in this generation due to family poverty and traditions. They end up being recruited as peace violators facing extrajudicial killings in streets, mosques and homes, where if their leadership was positive and well utilized we would have strong armies and talented young people who can stand for human dignity and secured societies.
Please explain how your selected topic areas are influenced, in the local context of your project (1,000 characters).
The Mombasa County Action Plan for Preventing and Countering Violent Extremism (2017 – 2022) lists eleven pillars in its logical framework. The pillars outline how the county plans to achieve intended objectives in the fight against rising violent extremism via a multipronged approach that consist both security measures and social economic aspects. The strategy depends upon collaborative and coordinated regional and local delivery, through local authorities, the police and those working with young people (such as schools, youth services and the third sector) all working together both in existing and new delivery structures. Community engagement is also vital. Without the sustained involvement of local communities, empowered and resourced to deliver local solutions to local challenges, achievement of the MCAP PCVE (2017 – 2022) will not be possible.

Please share some of the top strengths identified in the community which your project will serve (500 characters)
Our recent meetings with Madrassa teachers, youth and female parents have proved essential that there’s a need to keep sensitizing them through such seminars in helping them bringing up their children in a positive way. Violent survivors are identified but no safe structures to handle them in self development and reintegration. Continued violence and grudges as police force and threats are used to restore peace which doesn’t count for sustainable peace and prosperity
The WUP project is targeted to be executed in Coast region of Kenya, in 6 constituencies of Mombasa
How many months are required for the project idea? (500 characters)

Peace sensitization activities enhancing informed and economically empowered communities hence county prosperity will take 30 months. Project implementation Preparations, stakeholders’ involvement and reports compilations timeline will equal 36 months project period
