Tanzania has many different wildlife populations in protected areas over the whole country. These wildlife populations are under threat from illegal hunting. Illegal harvesting of wildlife is done by illegal hunters; hereafter ‘poachers’ most poachers struggling to feed their families. In particular, poverty is widely considered the leading driver that causes a household’s inhabitants to take up poaching in protected areas. In rural parts of Tanzania, poachers have historically poor and uneducated.
According to a recent International Union for Conservation of Nature report, East Africa’s elephant population declined by nearly half between 2006 and 2015, with Tanzania seeing a reduction of more than 60 percent during that period. Poachers are liable to continue hunting regardless of whatever top-down costs are imposed simply because they lack alternative livelihood opportunities.
Our innovative project use the approach that involves Identify, recruits, support and equipping then transforms poachers as conservationists, wild protectors and community leaders to become actively engaged in protecting wild life rather than killing them. We will creating the alternative entrepreneurial livelihoods solution by providing the necessary skills Training such as conservation farming and leadership, trained in wildlife management and conflict mitigation techniques, economic and entrepreneurship in carpentry, brick laying, chicken and goat production and dry season farming, Poachers as Change Agents. We teach them to solve poverty for themselves and their community along with mentor-ship to develop and start their own real social enterprise and future projects. After these poachers being empowered and transformed open new pathway and we work with them as “transformation leaders” within their communities as wildlife activist, philanthropist, community educators and role models leaders for poachers through transform other poachers and trained them in the skills they was taught

Our idea will reach 300 poachers to create prosperous, inclusive, built-to-last economies as follows:
Poachers: Research supported the strong theoretical linkage between poverty and poaching. Poachers who will be trained by Remoteness Ltd on alternative livelihood skills, our tentative idea Poachers will reduce their poaching behaviors. Also we intend to see the statistically significant improvements in poachers to end poaching as a preferred livelihood and increase their level to transform others. The approach not only improves food security and household incomes, but helps people to remain in the same place, farming the same fields over the long term, thus reducing incentives to clear forest for new farmland.
Wild life ecosystem: Perhaps more striking is the potential impact on wildlife numbers. The poacher transformation Program will increase the number of wild animals since poachers will be less likely to do poaching

How is your idea unique? (1,000 characters)

The idea is unique because we know that other ant-poaching programs focused on “top-down” strategies, referred to as more enforcement-based. There are local villagers who illegally hunt for meat; larger criminal organized gangs facilitate poaching in most of the Africa countries including Tanzania. Park rangers are the only forces operating behind the killers, but outnumbered and poorly equipped, they are unable to win this violent battle alone without getting the cooperation from the local community members. But due to the lack of enough education about the crisis, majority of the Tanzanians do not know to get involved and save the wildlife. We are different that our approach offered a more humanitarian way to end illegal hunting as compared to law enforcement, which local leaders will cooperate to encourage their local hunters to participate in the transformation process.Sustainable alternative livelihoods will provide ongoing safe and legal work for poachers in Tanzania.

In 3-4 sentences, tell us the inspiration or story that encouraged you to start this project.

For many years, I observe well-known poachers who hunted illegally in protected area and National Parks in my country Tanzania due to poverty, drought, unemployment and wildlife conflict . I cannot remember the number of wild animals they killed. The poacher hunted elephants, buffalo, Giraffe as well as lions and leopards for their skins. Unfortunately Anti-poaching activist Wayne Lotter was killed in Tanzania in 2017 after years spent actively opposing the country’s poachers.

Please explain how your selected topic areas are influenced, in the local context of your project (1,000 characters).

From poachers to conservationist: Illegal hunters in Africa may be making rational decisions about the hunting activities they par take in.These decisions could be linked to their socioeconomic status and the livelihood opportunities available to them to discontinue poaching activities. We believe that if poachers becoming wild life protectors it is a rebirth for them. They will gain even more prestige than they would have from killing wildlife. Most notably, these mitigation efforts are found on 21 century skills and thus are easily understood and accepted by the community. Wild life will only survive in Africa if they contribute to, rather than being detracted by people’s through their livelihoods. Our approach will demonstrate its merit as a successful, effective and sustainable wild life and environmental conservation model.To alleviate these human-made biodiversity threats; we works with the local poachers to formulate strategies designed to provide alternative livelihoods.

Who will work alongside your organization in the project idea? (1,000 characters)

Partners and Key Collaborators: This is a collaborative model open partnership primarily with partners possess the technical and organizational skills, knowledge, resources, relationships and experiences that are needed to reach diverse stakeholder groups, influence policies, engage with communities surrounding national parks, wildlife protected areas and both non-governmental organization, private and the government institution all of which are needed to create long-lasting poachers transformation program and changes across the communities landscape.We work with poachers to explore opportunities, identify and appraise potential sustainable alternative projects, train on the alternative livelihood projects and work to achieve their implementation. This working partnership ensures the ownership and acceptance of the projects, as well as encouraging utilization of local knowledge and home-grown solutions. These interventions, in addition to improving the poacher’s livelihoods.

Engaging in this program will becomes a life-changing experience for these poachers who have had no formal education, trained in psycho-social support and leadership, trained in wildlife management and conflict mitigation techniques, economic and entrepreneurship in carpentry, brick laying, chicken and goat production and dry season farming, Poachers as Change Agents. Collectively these efforts lead to a reduction in the loss of wildlife, which in turn enhances the livelihoods of local people

This is an initiative to reduce poverty and to protect the endangered wildlife that are threatened due to poverty and conflict that fuel the hunting of wild animals for food and business in the biodiversity of Tanzania. Help ex poachers move into alternative livelihoods and break the socio-economic cycle of dependence on wildlife poaching which can lead to arrest or even cost them their lives. This is a bold way to combine peace, prosperity, and planet. We encourage those living in and around the protected areas to adopt alternative with the tools and training to start sustainable, income-generating businesses and savings groups. This offers a peaceful path to earn money and respect as part of a community. Thus it provides a powerful alternative to poach, while also leveraging a successful business model, which makes it a new approach.
