Explain your project idea (2,000 characters)

Many generations have had moments that make them interested about nature. For some, it was women like Dian Fossey and Jane Goodall, for others people like Steve Irwin and Bill Nye but for today’s generation, there is little passionate about the planet. Passion Planet is a weekly video series that targets children to get them excited about nature and passionate about restoration and sustainability. Passion Planet has many avenues it can pursue and that is a reason it is so special. One week we could discuss how amazing and cool Sperm Whales are, the next week we could discuss how intriguing invasive species are. Each week allows another child to learn about nature in a new and exciting way. This format for the videos series allows students to pursue their interests sparked by the video. For example, a video could discuss Tundra Wolves, a student watching the video may be so interested in what was discussed that they research outside of the video to learn more.

Who are the beneficiaries? (1,000 characters)

The beneficiaries of Passion Planet are students as young as kindergarten to as old as 8th graders. The goal is for these students to learn more about nature in a fun and exciting way. These students may not have the ability to explore nature or have no interest in doing so.

How is your idea unique? (1,000 characters)

My idea is unique because it involves children getting passionate about nature. A lot of focus is drawn to making the future a better place, but none of that will happen unless the next generation has the opportunity to see what all of nature as to offer them. By creating a “show” for them to enjoy they can learn about nature and become more interested in it. There are millions of youtube videos directed towards children but very few of them are intended to have a lasting effect on the children. Passion Planet aims itself towards having a lifelong impact to children by making them not only excited about nature but passionate about keeping it’s natural beauty.

  • No, but we plan to register in the future.

In 3-4 sentences, tell us the inspiration or story that encouraged you to start this project.

The inspiration for this was with my friends in my Environmental Science Class. We all took the class to learn more about the environment and creating friendships along the way. We all had an amazing time learning about certain aspects of nature and became passionate about it. My goal is for children who do not have the same opportunities I did to fall in love with nature like I do.

Please explain how your selected topic areas are influenced, in the local context of your project (1,000 characters).

In order to achieve Prosperity and Planet, there needs to be a passion. Children today are less excited about nature and this could be a real problem in our fight for a better and more sustainable planet. By creating a video series about how cool and exciting nature is we are getting the next generation involved. Future Prosperity will be impacted by those students and children not interested in the environment.

Who will work alongside your organization in the project idea? (1,000 characters)

For now the project would be me alone filming and editing, however, each month or week depending on availability guests could come on the show and talk about what they are interested in. My goal is for this to reach as many students as possible. Implicating it in public school could be beneficial. Another possible organization that I would want to work with is youtube. Many children are put in front of a tablet and just watch whatever comes up. If I could partner with Youtube I could be able to have more children watching the show and more children interested in it.

Please share some of the top strengths identified in the community which your project will serve (500 characters)

Some top strengths are that I know how to video edit. In order to make quality videos that students are drawn the videos have to be well made. Also, a further idea for the project is collaboration. Each week a guest could come on a talk about a subject in nature they love. A strength of this idea is that I have many people who would love to come on the show and talk about what they love about nature.

Geographic Focus

American students and children

How many months are required for the project idea? (500 characters)

This project is fairly simple to implicate and it should not take longer than 2 weeks. This is because there are only three steps to the process. First is I have to come up with an idea. Next, I have to film the idea in front of a camera. Finally, I edit and upload. There is a lot of possibilities with this idea because it is relatively simple. I could do this once a week every week for a year.

Great idea! I like how you're focusing on education and teaching the next generation about the world they live in, and how they can impact it. I agree with the other comments that it would be interesting if you could expand your target group to high-schoolers and older as well, so that they could have more understanding about the world and how their actions affect nature as well. A question that I have is how you plan to let your videos be shared. Yes, anyone can find the videos on Youtube, but not everyone will actively search up nature videos, and the videos may not appear on their suggestions. Like Veronica said, maybe you could share your videos to more audiences by putting the videos on multiple different sites. Overall, I enjoyed the creativity and simplicity of this idea!
