Dear Maira, thank you for the mention, I am happy to hear the idea submission from my team inspired your idea. I was interested to know how technology education is done in your school-- are they taught as a computer class to teach digital skills? Or is technology being incorporated into main subject classes? How are the instructors (my understanding is that they are Comsats University volunteers?) vetted and stay committed to the project? Best wishes on your project!

Hi Maira,

I was wondering: you write that it is a school for underprivileged children, but it is not clear to me how you find and select these children.
The title states high school, but in the picture I see younger kids (primary age) so what age is your target group?

best wishes,
Lara

Greetings Maira Khan. Like Brian and others who have commented here, I too resonate with your vision and mission and wish you ultimate success. Perhaps we should connect in case any of the publications and programs our team is developing for successful life, work and entrepreneurship skills might be useful in some way for your students (and or faculty!) Good luck on this fundraising opportunity. While financial resources are ALWAYS appreciated, we have already received significant benefits just from sharing our idea here which is allowing us to connect with other individuals and organizations around the world like you and your team who are making a positive difference in the lives of your students and the larger communities you serve!

YES, let us continue to help save the world, rather provide programs and services to help our brothers and sisters A.R.K. -- Awaken; Realize more of their potential: and Know how to save themselves. That reminds me of a favorite quote by Confucius (who happened to have quite a few ideas for Planetary Peace and Prosperity:)

"To put the world in order, we must first put the nation in order;
to put the nation in order, we must put the family in order;
to put the family in order, we must cultivate our personal life; and
to cultivate our personal life, we must first set our hearts right." - Confucius

I think there is no better way to phrase how we can make this world a better place and bridge all gaps.

Maira Khan Really interesting project! I strongly believe an improved education is a critical base to improving opportunity. On that note, you might find my proposal interesting. We have an app, called Talking Stickers that is designed for children from 3-6 years old, living in low-resource setting. We have piloted Talking Stickers in Kenya and India and we are currently working to earn funding to integrate our app into Chile. The essence of our app is that low-resource children tend to have significantly reduced vocabularies, compared to children from high resource settings. Our app is designed to make learning fun so children and even their parents, can greatly increase their vocabulary. This is critical as by age 6 a child's brain is ~90% developed and a limited vocabulary typically lowers academic performance. Our app is ultra low-cost and content is designed onsite by the teachers in local lanague-this brings the classroom back to the child's home and vice versa.

If that sounds interesting, please check out my proposal, who knows perhaps someday Talking Stickers will make it to Pakistan. Best of luck with the challenge!

Maira Khan Thanks a lot for you enthusiasm for Talking Stickers! I'll pass on your contact info to the founder of Talking Stickers and you guys can discuss potential opportunities. It would be truly amazing if via this 'Bridge Building' contest we were able to actually connect Talking Stickers to Pak Foundation High School and create some tangible on the ground benefits.
Once again, thanks for your interest in Talking Stickers and best of luck with your proposal! Brian

Maira Khan Great to hear you are truly interested in Talking Stickers, I really hope we can work something out and have some tangible collaboration! I don't deal with MOU's, I focus on social impact strategy and strategic partnerships, but you can reach out to our CEO, Lak Chinta, who deals with these issues.
We are confident Talking Stickers can offer huge benefits for very low costs, we are even considering proposing using potential grant funds to reduce fees or potentially even fully subsidize costs, so people like you can try Talking Stickers for very low, perhaps zero cost for several months. Earlier today, I sent you an email and cc'ed Lak Chinta the CEO. I encourage you to reach out to Lak and he can help you. If you have any troubles contacting him, let me know and I will help you out.

Best of luck, I really hope we can work something out and Build some Bridges! Best, Brian

Your idea is very intriguing. Would you plan on selling the crafts the children made or would their efforts be geared more towards self-sustainability (opening a business and knowing how to produce quality products) for the future? Also, would the children move from volunteer to paid work as this would help them understand their worth in the marketplace?

Photo of Maira Khan
Team

Thank you Vicky for your appreciation. Children will be trained to produce local craft as training.
