miDistrito: a digital platform to enhance visualize family businesses in popular areas for consumption in immediate rich environments

Explain your project idea (2,000 characters)

The challenge is build bridges between rich areas with immediate popular areas, in order to connect these two realities developing most harmonious and peace place, reducing the social segregation in the entire district; based in trust and talent and abilities appreciation. In this idea the bridge is a digital platform that brings visibility to the local, familiar and small business like laundries, dry cleaners, tailors, etc, providing the payment on line service and home service, so this way it would be eliminate limiting beliefs and barriers for consumption at this places. This social enterprise would have the following components:
1) Local business community: Social work based in trust, so the group of local business that are interested to offer this services through the digital platform will be part of this. This community pretends understand the ideology, language, dreams, motivations, strengths, weaknesses and installed capacity of this group, so we could build two-ways trust and could develop trainings, accompaniment process and some coaching to permit them break barriers and reach their business goals (goals are closely linked with their socioeconomic and familiar goals like: son’s education, housing, access for a better opportunity, etc). Each year a festival will be held to make improvements to the infrastructure of the environment where the businesses are located. In this way, support for visibility would not only be on the digital platform but also physically, which helps to believe in the transformation and appreciate it in a more forceful way. 2)Digital platform: this website would have a html page with an e-commerce one with all elements that could be demonstrate to the client that it is easy, and quality consume in these establishments, and the other hand the business owners deserves. 3) Final user experience: social consciousness experience through elements that motivate the appreciation of the services provided and not from the pity.

The local business located in popular areas near to the rich areas, because they would increase their sales, and in medium term people who live in this areas. People who live in rich areas could know, consume and appreciate the services they would receive from the popular areas, and as each consume of these businesses, contribute to their environment improves (like and investment). Beneficiaries are both, because all of them increase their conscious and emphaty for each other, and together build an harmonious and peace place.

It considered collaborative economy principles, so each actor win when is part of this: local business increasing sales, people who consume using this platform receive an easy and quality service and lives an social consciousness experience, this social enterprise is economically sustainable. And all build an harmonious and peace place, reducing the social segregation between each other through the interaction, connection and empathy.

We are a multidisciplinary professional (economist, public policy, urbanist, social science) collective that develop local capabilities, solutions and innovations centered on persons and territories, to enhance social and urban transformations focused on sustainability.

In 3-4 sentences, tell us the inspiration or story that encouraged you to start this project.

Since 2012 to 2016 I worked at “Un Solo San Pedro” program, it reduced the poverty in one of the most rich municipality in Mexico (San Pedro Garza García), but in the other hand the 10% of population have lived in poverty conditions. The high social and economic contrast, and the goals reached inspired me to keep trying to reduce the segregation produced of that contrast, both areas have the capacities, you just have to enhance a bridge.

Please explain how your selected topic areas are influenced, in the local context of your project (1,000 characters).

Prosperity it would be impacted because the sales of local business will be increased, so they can afford better living opportunities and in long term the capital gain of rich areas will be maintain or increase. Peace would be influenced because the social tensions developed between rich and popular areas will decreased.

Who will work alongside your organization in the project idea? (1,000 characters)

The engagement process is a fundamental element along three components: Local business owners would be conform a community trust based and their involvement is the start to be part of the change of mind, their trainings and enforcements to grow up in sales and goals. The final user are engaged with the platform and the key messages of the marketing, because more than sale something we are changing minds, inviting to connect with your immediate environment through your consumption. And in the mid-term the vision or result of this, is create an one community with less social segregation, appreciating their differences as a complementary world with dignity and respect.

Please share some of the top strengths identified in the community which your project will serve (500 characters)

In the pilot área (Santa Fe área in Mexico City) There are more tan 200 local business with 10 or more years old that provide a wide diversity of services. Also there are 4311 resident families and 70,000 employees. I visualize the possibility to connect as a strength, because the socioeconomic gap is a fact but also is an opportunity to link each other. Nowadays the conscious consumption is a new trend, I think that is another opportunity to improve the way to interaction between both areas.

Geographic Focus

Mexico. The pilot will placed in Mexico City, in Santa Fe area. Next areas will be: Polanco, Lomas.

8 months to finish the planification. 12 months to pilot the projetc. 12 months to stabilize the operations and to be ready to scale it up.

What sort of light experiment are you envisioning to carry out to test your idea?
And because of the challenge requirements, are there any local organizations in Mexico or within this community platform that you could identify which you could partner with to execute your idea?

There are some organizations that we are considering, for example: "Asociación de Colonos de Santa Fe", their endorsement and engagement in the project will be essential because they have the relationship and direct communication with big enterprises, neighbors and universities principally (http://colonossantafe.com/colonos/). Also "Fundación Promover A.C." would be a partner for local business training (http://promover.org.mx/). And "Colectivo Tomate" would collaborate for annual festival (https://es-la.facebook.com/ColectivoTomate/)
For the testing, I am planning a basic plattform with basic functions to show 2 or 3 local businesses, and apply surveys and focus group for receiving feedback by final users. With local business it could be a meeting to explain the project, invite them to be part of this testing and tell their histories in a video.
