Explain your project idea (2,000 characters)

Study shows that 40% or more of students enrolled for first year in our tertiary institutions suffer from anxiety. It is caused by a number of factors one of them being self awareness. A platform is needed to assist them to transition into adulthood, where a number of issues are going to be discussed. Importantly administer programs that will help them cope with the pressure as some of them are from rural areas. Currently South Africa is going through a political and religious transition, it is of utmost importance to assist our youth. Help them identify their role in terms contribution towards socioeconomic status. Our youth need to establish sense of purpose and value as some of them haven't realized the importance of identifying their passion. Majority of them is trapped in early childhood development as parents raise children not adults who will later stand and step out of the comfort zone. Start a new life where they will be forced to be adults. This program will assist government to secure a future of purpose driven, ambitious and zealous youth. Because what they need is a shift in perspective stop looking down on themselves. Actually take an active and key role in developing and shaping of their own lives. Your financial assistance will help in my research as I want to personally visit these institutions. Currently South Africa has 9 provinces each has more than one tertiary institution. Also a dialogue is needed between first years and third years so to create a need as I will be talking to managements of these institutions. Their buy in is crucial because access comes from them knowing what is the benefit. Major part is to expose the gap between rural-township-urban students the danger of treating them as equal though their backgrounds aren't the same. There is also socioeconomic background barrier that needs to be addressed and dealing with diversity. This will help improve quality of results and develop employable graduates.

Who are the beneficiaries? (1,000 characters)

South African first year tertiary institution students Focus areas: Rural-township-urban background Socioeconomic background (impact) Students with physical disability(disadvantages) The program will act as an interface for them to see the brighter side of their environment, take ownership because they will be in a better psychological condition. This will cover major universities, technikons and tvet colleges.

How is your idea unique? (1,000 characters)

As I mentioned that 'm on research stage already I've sort services of someone whom upon discussion saw the importance of this program. He is Dr Bongani Qwabe currently employed by University of Kwazulu-Natal Durban. I needed someone with vast experience who will actually speak from a place of knowledge and being grossly exposed. Our first discussion took more than an hour because he was feeding me from an incident that transpires earlier on the day. Where he found himself having to conduct a session instead of a class between him and his third year students, his concern was lack of readiness. And as we got deeper in our discussion he got to identify the problem with his students, he personally requested to be part of this project. One thing he highlighted is the fact that such program isn't available in our tertiary institutions.

Idea Proposal Stage (choose one)

  • Initial Design: I am exploring the idea, gathering the inspiration and information I need to test it with real users.

Tell us more about your organization/company (1 sentence and website URL)

Buncwane Solutions is a company that was founded on the basis to tackle early childhood issues, women empowerment, dealing with diversity and now we have added Interface as a fourth program. As mentioned South Africa has a lot to deal with I believe it is such ideas that will help to shift perspective. So the company is a solution provider.

Expertise in sector

  • 1-2 years

Organization Filing Status

  • Yes, we are a registered company.

In 3-4 sentences, tell us the inspiration or story that encouraged you to start this project.

Being a rural girl I know fear of new surroundings, low self esteem, lack of ability to express self due to fear of being laughed at as English is your second language. It is from that point of reasoning that 've taken it upon myself to bring in this angle. Also having identified early childhood impact as we remain trapped in cycles that were not created by us. Ability to stand on your own and actually believe in your strength knowing that failure is lack of trying than trying and miss.

Please explain how your selected topic areas are influenced, in the local context of your project (1,000 characters).

Self awareness is the key factor towards any development, when people are self aware they start to have sense of inner peace. It is there where their purpose gets to be redefined actualizing importance of their contribution towards economic growth. Importantly take initiative in bettering their lives, that contributes to better communities and a better world to live in. Investing on our youth is preservation of the generations to come. Making them see their value is actually the huge role we seek to play. Restoring of trust amongst others, importance of working as a team towards achieving common goal.

Who will work alongside your organization in the project idea? (1,000 characters)

Each institution has an office that looks at supporting students, will work closely with them. Facilitators who will have clear understanding of the goal want to achieve. Lecturers as I intend to have a forum that will consist of lectures and students so that we can have dialogues My role is to facilitate and give clear guidance of what is at stake.

Please share some of the top strengths identified in the community which your project will serve (500 characters)

Each person has a vision they are born with sometimes for that vision to surface it takes someone shinning a light in some dark areas. I believe in our youth and know where they come from, challenges they face so to make a mark in the society. This program will be the compass that will constantly remind them of their purpose. We are a collective that seeks to promote the greater good of humanity.

Geographic Focus

South Africa has 9 provinces I will cover every university, technikon and tvet college.

How many months are required for the project idea? (500 characters)

Two to three months of research as I will personally visit the institutions, have dialogues as part of the research. I will also choose students do case studies and this will include visiting their homes. Purpose is to create reality not just a story but have real people so that in the future our government can actually adopt this program and assist financially.

Hi Bongi Ndandani ! Thank you for sharing your 'Interface' idea for the BridgeBuilder Challenge. You have brought to attention a very important aspect of youth development and self-awareness that is often ignored in many countries.

It will be great to add some pictures/ visuals/videos/ links in your write-up, as richer content help develop better context and empathy!
