This work aims to develop social skills amongst youth in order to enable them to make social interventions to build peace and prosperity.
Explain your project idea (2,000 characters)
Our world is increasingly facing many social and natural phenomena that affect citizens’ prosperity and well-being. These problems include: climate changes, natural disasters, social conflicts, increasing in poverty incidence, deficient health services, intolerance culture, discrimination based in gender, sex, age, and ethnic origin. By the other side, many citizens show lack of readiness or competences to deal with this range of problems. Additionally, the number of societal intervention projects involving youth is somehow very low. The few projects that are carried out are more restrictive as they focus on one aspect and are generally aimed to make assistance to people not to adopt them with skills to successfully prevent or mitigate these barriers.
Taking into consideration the aspects above, We developed this project that constitutes a proposal for youth training in social competences for citizenship performing in Angonia district, Mozambique. With the development of these competences, We aim to cultivate youth’s personal and social development that will make them ready to resolve most challenging problems that impede social and economic development, access to quality health and educational services, peaceful society and social justice.
This project is designed with the purpose to form an active citizenship that will allow youth citizens to deepen their understanding about the most global challenges in their community. In addition, this aims to adopt youth with social competences with the purpose to make a conscious and responsible intervention in these challenges in order to contribute actively to social and economic development, well-being and peace building.
We think that designing a training program based in an integrative paradigm will contribute to acquisition of competences that will allow youth to build up peace, economic and social development in target community.
Who are the beneficiaries? (1,000 characters)
The program will benefit 32 youth who will be trained to help 5000 youth citizens
: 1200 farmers, 1400 secondary students, 600 primary teachers, 1000 illiterate youth, 400 disabled citizens, 200 religious leaders, and 100 social activists.
The farmers will be trained in order to practice a sustainable agriculture and in terms of agribusiness. Primary teachers will be trained to develop citizenship practices amongst their pupils. Despite of not having formal education, illiterate youth will be trained to make social contributions in their society in order to build peace and prosperity, a kind of “social literacy”. We will strive to design strategies to assure formal education of disabled youth and train them in entrepreneurship matters in order to upgrade their lives. Religious and local leaders will be trained to break social and religious factor that disable local citizens to have access to health and education services, incite discrimination based in race, gender, religion, etc.
How is your idea unique? (1,000 characters)
The few projects that are carried out in our selected workplace are more restrictive as they focus on one aspect and are generally aimed to make assistance to people not to adopt them with social skills to successfully prevent or mitigate these barriers. Thus unprivileged people are always waiting for generous assistance and if it is not available they are not able to face various challenges.
Our project is designed with the purpose to form an integral citizenship that will make citizens to deepen their understanding of the most global challenges in our society. In addition, this aims to adopt students with competences to make a conscious and responsible intervention in these challenges in order to contribute actively to social and economic development, well-being and peace building. In the first stage, we will develop social skills amongst youth so that they may use them in real contexts in the community.
