Explain your project idea (2,000 characters)

there is a malnutrition problem in the internally displaced peoples camps in Uganda, unhealthy babies take away the peace of their parents, malnutrition in children can be tackled starting with the mothers good nutrition during pregnancy that will result into a healthy child. investing in nutrition triggers social economic changes in a community because too many much money will be spent on malnourished children and mothers in the refugee camps for their immunity is law and diseases attack them. malnutrition leads to poor brain development and stunted growth, better developed children grow into productive adults who will contribute to community development and prosperity. the project educates mothers in refugee camps on how to feed them selves and their children nutritious foods, teaches and facilitates them to do backyard farming in the camps to be able to grow nutritious foods to supplement their meals. the project will target pregnant and breast feeding mothers and children because a malnourished pregnant mother will give birth to a malnourished child who will grow into a weak adult that contributes less to the development of the community. while teaching the beneficiaries on good nutrition demonstration will be done using locally available cheap foods not relying only on the therapeutical foods

Who are the beneficiaries? (1,000 characters)

our beneficiaries will be children between 0-5 years of age, young women of reproductive age 18-40, pregnant and breastfeeding women

How is your idea unique? (1,000 characters)

population of refugees is very big. most agencies doing such programs in refugee camps use expensive processed supplements to treat malnourished children only. and yet the problem of malnutrition in these communities starts right from the conception of a malnourished mother. our approach is the best because it tackles the problem from the its root and also will make use of locally available natural foods for treatment. by doing this there will be value for money. our idea also considers investing in the young generation to attain prosperity and development of all generations even after the generation of the one in the refugee camp

our organisation conducted a needs assessment in Navarre refugee camp July 2017. we got feedback from mothers that their children who are clinically treated of malnutrition get well but the younger ones who are born come with the same problem. that is why we chose to design a project that will treat pregnant, breast feeding mothers and children as means of eliminating the problem.

Nice work on a very important issue. I'm curious which refugee camps you'd like to start in. You mentioned Navarre. Any others?

I love your thought process! It's amazing how much nutrition can have a ripple effect on entire communities. It was so important to me when I was pregnant to eat nutritious foods because I knew that would set the tone for my daughter's health. I can't imagine not having the resources or the understanding. The Rural Synergy Foundation sees this as a problem in the U.S. as well....we are working through how to add a nutrition piece to our program! This is inspirational. Thank you!
