'Trust In' - A blockchain based Mobile App to implode funding/donations for climate change focused ventures
'Trust In' Mobile App helps address the key issue of trust in funding by creating a transparent system based on memberships / referrals
Explain your project idea (2,000 characters)
The project idea is to create an App to allow individuals/small organisations who would like to donate funds to a good cause but are unable to find trustworthy sources. Crowdfunding platforms are open to all and donors refrain from donating to unverified requestors.
On the other hand, change makers working on good causes often struggle to raise funds. This platform works on a referral basis by its members. As a member, a user can add someone who is seeking funds hence ensuring he / she is taking ownership for their authenticity. Once that is done, the user can request their contacts for contributions either to mark a specific occasion or just like that. This is especially to encourage a shift away from the culture of buying unnecessary gifts and trashing the planet. Instead, the money for gifts can be channelised to good causes via this App.
By seeking to connect Do Gooders with those who want to contribute to causes that appeal to them or their friends / family for support, this App can help raise funds in a matter of minutes, thus helping the people seeking funds prosper and helping the planet by reducing consumerism. This ecosystem works in a mutually beneficial way by ensuring appropriate checks and balances are in place to verify both the referrer and the referee, resulting in some Do Gooders points that accrue to regular donors along with a tax exemption certificate. The App would be secure and has the possibility of using blockchain technology as well (though since that is new and not completely understood at this point, it needs to be explored in greater detail).
Who are the beneficiaries? (1,000 characters)
The beneficiaries are the multitude of social change catalysts who are struggling with fund raising due to lack of skills or access to funding organisations. By ensuring that only limited funding is sought at a point in time, this ensures fund raising in a phased manner and hence minimises risk for donors, while keeping the change makers accountable for the success of their initiatives.
The App would have a feature for the donors to view the status of the project, thus bringing about the much needed transparency in the system. This results in the donor being encouraged to donate on a repeat basis and introduces a human connect via establishing a donor-recipient relationship which is grossly missing in today's platforms.
How is your idea unique? (1,000 characters)
There are multiple crowdfunding platforms available today and platforms catering to channeling funds from corporates. However, the retail funding market remains untapped due to concerns on the authenticity of the fund requestor. In addition, people who would like to channel their funds during celebrations are left to fend for themselves, thus discouraging the very act of generosity.
Many condominiums currently engage in collecting funds for small local projects. This App would help address that need and make the process of fund collection faster and smoother.
The requestor can be rated basis the success of the project and the referrer stands to gain points as well for recommending an authentic source.
With the Indian subcontinent exploding with changemakers across various areas and a lack of fund raising experts and opportunities, there is a need to have this form of low carbon footprint fund raising method, which can eventually replace events and a multitude of emails.

Initial Design: I am exploring the idea, gathering the inspiration and information I need to test it with real users.
Tell us more about your organization/company (1 sentence and website URL)
The Charter for Compassion India Forum is in the process of registration as a not for profit company and aims to address issues relating to bringing more goodness and compassion to the world. Our focus areas are women and girls, education of children and climate change. The website is currently under development but is available http://charterforcompassion.org.in while the global website is available at http://charterforcompassion.org.
Organization Filing Status
No, but we are a formal initiative through an accelerator, hub, or other entity.
In 3-4 sentences, tell us the inspiration or story that encouraged you to start this project.
I have been studying The Systems View of Life by Fritjof Capra and through my practice of meditation, I have been able to connect with the multiplicity of issues around me, while realising their inter-connectedness.
I am a fellow with change.org's She Creates Change program 1.0 and I am aware of some of our fellow change makers struggling with fund raising. I understand why currently existing platforms do not work and there is a need to make fund raising a user led and easier process.
Please explain how your selected topic areas are influenced, in the local context of your project (1,000 characters).
Peace is influenced by the unrest experienced by change makers when they are unable to make an impact due to paucity of funds. Economic prosperity confined to a small group of people has been increasing the economic divide amongst people and resulting in an increased occurrence of violent incidents. In addition, prosperity has not been accompanied with happiness as the basic acts of generosity, giving and compassion are missing in today's world.
To enhance peace in today's world, there is a dire need for more and more people to innovate and experiment to resolve issues at a local level although unfortunately, many such people are strapped for funds.
By connecting people seeking funds to those wanting to support such efforts, there would be overall level of increase in happiness leading to a more harmonious living environment. In addition, providing an easy and transparent channel for giving would enable a reduction of consumerism, thus contributing to a better planet.
Who will work alongside your organization in the project idea? (1,000 characters)
I will be engaging change makers from the http://change.org batch of the She Creates Change program as I am a part of this program.
In addition, I would be working with App developers to address the technical aspects of this App.
I plan to loop in some experts in blockchain from my network to review the possibility of using blockchain for this initiative. This will ensure that I am considering all sides of the solution and not just one aspect of it.
I recently formed a group of local residents to initiate waste segregation in our condominium and we started with studying the sites where this was being done effectively and reviewing proposals from vendors who were successfully managing this initiative in some apartment complexes. We had divided work amongst ourselves wherein one member was in charge of community, one for advocacy, one for vendor engagement and one for research. While executing events like an Eco Run and pledge signing, we had organised small teams that worked well.
Please share some of the top strengths identified in the community which your project will serve (500 characters)
I am connected with a group of about 75 change makers via http://change.org already and since http://change.org and Charter for Compassion are both global organisations, I would be able to tap into a global network of change makers as well for inputs into the design of this App. Each batch of30 change makers has been selected after screening and stringent interview processes. Since many changemakers are constantly looking for funding, they would be keenly involved in the pilot and success of this initiative.
Currently, the scope of the App would be the Indian subcontinent.
How many months are required for the project idea? (500 characters)
I think the App can be designed within 6 months, the prototype made within 12 months and the pilot completed in the next 6-9 months. Overall, I think this can be easily implemented within 36 months, also keeping in mind approvals required from relevant authorities to get funding.
Did you submit this idea to our 2017 BridgeBuilder Challenge? (Y/N)
