Explain your project idea (2,000 characters)

combination of an online campaign, leading to offline action (to-be-expired food donation)
a product-service-system to generate community engagement, restaurant growth and awareness around the food waste issue.
install donation bins at restaurants, train both foodies and restaurants on food waste issue and how to get involved with food waste sucks. The expected result of this first step is to find financial investment to develop an e-learning platform, where both foodies, restaurants and non-profits will interact among each other, track their activities, redeem discount coupons (foodies), tax benefits (restaurants), people fed (NGOs).
The campaign concept is ‘FOOD WASTE SUCKS”, the main goal is to awaken the desire to take action by ‘partnershiping’ with local business and by rewarding their customers for doing what they do anyway, eating out, adding the value of doing good.
using the power of social media and the community of Los Angeles restaurants, food influencers, and food related non-profits to get the word out about #FoodWasteSucks.
Macro-View:
FoodWasteSucks website: informational website for restaurants, foodies and nonprofits to get involved and learn more about the issue, project, digital content & marketing materials: blog posts, in-store displays and promotional videos
surveys: capture sentiment and knowledge of consumer and collect insights for food waste combat tactics (taken online or at the restaurant)
participants will receive an invitation to engage with #FoodWasteSucks (share videos)
12 liter buckets will be available for purchase ($5.00). To transport food to be donated at participating restaurants (buckets have a QR code to track future activity)
larger storage bins hosted at restaurant partners (NGOs will collect and re-distribute donations on scheduled date

this is a unique idea because it engage all stakeholders of the food system and it can easily be scaled to any country.
even if the original idea is to engage foodies to donate to-be-expired food, the project is unique also in the potential adaptability, we can integrate farmers and community gardens management companies if we integrate food scraps donation.

Love the concept.

Few questions - will foodies/restaurants be able to decide where the food is being donated? For example, I would love to know I'm helping feed people in Skid Row, Watts, etc.

How often are restaurants donating? Daily? Weekly? Monthly?

Hi Daniel,
Thank you for your questions and feedback.
Food Tribe imagines having a contract with the food related NGOs, in order to commit with regular donations, which is their main issue. That doesn't exclude the possibility of new partnerships to be established through out the project, in fact, we want to connect with as many as possible, as our mission is to end hunger.
What I imagine with this feedback, is creating a space for co-developing these partnerships by asking foodies for suggestions.
As regard periodicity, there are technology we can use to track amount of food that has already been donated. Once sufficient food is donated, always having expiration date as an important variety, logistics for distribution will be automated.
I hope we can have at least weekly donation redistribution.
Did I answer your question?
