Counselling and orientation session with high school students
Explain your project idea (2,000 characters)
Our project is called exemplary citizens. It consist of doing counselling and orientation to high school students to enable them discover their passion and therefore choose careers based on their passions. Lecture them civic education to enable the students be law abiding citizens, also have a sense of belonging to their communities and therefore get involve in participative community development. Lecture them on time management to enable the students to be time conscious in all the things they do in their daily life. The main challenge this project is to solve is the problem of high unemployment in our community, lack of work passion among the working class and lack of will to be part of community development. All this result from the lack of counselling and orientation in our educational system. This make the students to choose careers not out of passion but by parental or peer influence. Upon graduation just 2/10 are recruited by the government and the rest are left to fend on their own. At this point in those recruited by the government hardly do their work passionately leading to low productivity. Those that are left out have academic skills which do not match with their passions and they find it very difficult to create jobs or be easily integrated in the society. This makes them to become frustrated and lost hope for the country. After looking at this situation and analyzing it well, the project Exemplary citizens is the only solution to empower a new generation of passionate, creative and law abiding citizens.

How is your idea unique? (1,000 characters)
The idea of our organization is unique in the sense that we are the first and only organization in my country working on counseling and orientation to make students discover their passion, choose institutions that will train the students to match their passion with their careers in order to reduce unemployment, poverty, frustration and loss of hope for the country in a long run. Other organizations work to enable the students pass well with high marks, offer scholarships without wanting to know what the students passion are and this does not really change the trend of things. The unique advantage we have is that we have been working on this for 3-5 years and we know what can work and can’t work. So our work does not solve the problem of unemployment from the branch causes but rather from the root cause of the problem. To eliminate unemployment and poverty in a long run.

In 3-4 sentences, tell us the inspiration or story that encouraged you to start this project.
What inspired me to start this project is the fact that I went through primary school, secondary, high school and university for a total of 21 years without ever meeting a counsellor and so the academic fields I choose was just out of my own imagination and peer influence without no one to guide me. This is the situation with millions of youth in my country deeply trapped in unemployment because of wrong academic choices. Is time we act or unemployment and poverty will lead us to civil unrest.
Please explain how your selected topic areas are influenced, in the local context of your project (1,000 characters).
With world population on the raise, there is an increase in the demand of everything with jobs not left out. The high level of unemployment is not because the jobs are not there but because of the lack of orientation at the basic level. This lead to high unemployment and poverty leading to much frustration, lawlessness and loss of hope for the nation by citizens. Counselling, orientation and civic education remains the only means to bridge this great gap for the prosperity of the community and country. With youth volunteers with expertise in the above fields ready to assist build a positive country with creative, patriotic and law abiding citizens, it is nothing but very important to do so now.

The key partners we shall be the schools where we have the students, the administrative partners shall be the Divisional delegation of secondary education and the divisional delegation of youth affairs and civic education. The technical partners shall be the Cameroon National Civic Service Agency for Participation in Development and finally the Cameroon National Youth Council. The first two partners which are administrative partners are to ensure what we are doing is in conformity with the law. The two technical partners are to see our work is well done and the students to know much about the organs which are created for youth socio-economic empowerment. In our previous activities the accord of the above structures has always help us work well and easily.
