Series of business activities that work to provide fresh white meat, bio energy fuel (biogas) and community transformation
Explain your project idea (2,000 characters)
Ecogen is a social enterprise that works to provide fresh and well processed indigenous white meat and white meat products which is more nutritious. This will be made possible by engaging rural youth and women to supply the livestock to ecogen through contract farming and our rural partnership model which equips them with resources and trainings for them to become Agri-entrepreneurs. In this way, we shall create a win-win platform for the low income rural farmer, for us, and for the consumer. Providing a consistent supply of high quality chicken meat to the market will thereby alleviate the supply constraints faced by small holder famers in Malawi and the world, leading to provision of ready market for farmers, a reduction in poverty and hunger at large.
EcoGen will also be providing to its farmers, the construction and installation and maintenance of biogas digesters. The Mission is to develop innovative ways of turning organic wastes into wealth and clean energy for our clients to contribute to a low carbon pathway for Malawi. This will ease pressure on our mothers, sisters, children and young brothers who face a daunting task of fetching firewood every day as this will provide them with clean energy to use for cooking and generating electricity and which is environmental and healthy friendly.
The enterprise offers 6 United Nations Sustainable Development Goals which include: No Poverty, No Hunger, Good Healthy, Renewable Energy, Climate Actions, Good Jobs and Economic Growth.
Who are the beneficiaries? (1,000 characters)
rural women and youth will benefit from the trainings and resources given to them to become entrepreneurs and asked to supply the livestock to ecogen which will not create job opportunities for them, but also provide them with ready market of their livestock and ease the supply constraints hence providing fresh white meat people in Malawi at all times, reducing poverty and hunger at large.
The biogas produced from this waste will give our youth and women farmers the opportunity to optimize their production and make it easier for anyone to fight against global warming. Biogas is also a cheap source of energy that reduces the destruction of trees while producing high quality organic fertilizer that farmers can use to improve crop yields. It is a clean source of energy and its one way of recycling wastes and reducing pollution.
How is your idea unique? (1,000 characters)
Rural-partnership model: this equips vulnerable people, women, and youth in remote rural and areas with the training, and resources needed to become entrepreneurs. This will enable them to consistently supply the livestock for processing and sell to customers.
The business will encompasses the whole value chain from the production to end market user. This will reduce the post-harvest losses of the farm produce, provision of ready market, reduction of the poverty and no hunger. The installation of the bio-digesters, will enable them to manage the wastes properly which offers clean environment and provide clean and reliable energy
Job creation: EcoGen will be recruiting young qualified veterinarians and engineers as franchise holders to provide animal health services to farmers and technical services for biogas constructions, installation and maintenance.
