Creating communities of practice in peace, prosperity and global partnerships for climate adaptability for people with disabilities
Multilateral stakeholders will work collaboratively, collectively, inclusively and seamlessly as peers in attaining this goal
Explain your project idea (2,000 characters)
NASCOH will create a community of practice in peace, prosperity and global partnerships for people with disabilities (PWDs) in Zimbabwe, through working in a consortium collaboratively, collectively, inclusively and as peers with multilateral partners to ensure the production of direction, alignment and direction in attaining peace, prosperity, and inclusive global partnerships for PWDs in Zimbabwe. Direction is: widespread agreement in a collective on overall goals, aims, and mission; alignment, the organization and coordination of knowledge and work in a collective; and commitment the willingness of members of a collective to subsume their own interests and benefit within the collective interest and benefit. The intervention will build and scale up on the success of past consortium interventions done by NASCOH. It will scale up vertically through a Population-based systems-focused strategy that changes policies, laws, budgets, national strategies and power structures by integrating disability and the UNCRPD and the SDGs into these policies , laws, budgets and national strategies; a disability mainstreaming Population-based community-focused strategy that changes community norms, attitudes, awareness, practices, and behaviors, will capacity build the capacities of multilateral peace stakeholders in human rights of PWDs, disability management, disability mainstreaming and disability-friendly service provision; and a disability specific Population-based, PWD-focused strategy that changes knowledge, attitudes, beliefs, practices, and behaviors of PWDs and their families and ensures that they receive social, economic and political services from solution holders as a population at risk. This twin track approach – disability specific approach coupled with a disability mainstreaming approach is the best way to reverse the documented social exclusion of PWDs in all spheres of economic, social, political and cultural life. It is consonant with openideo frameworks.
Who are the beneficiaries? (1,000 characters)
Beneficiaries will be the estimated 2.4 million PWDs in Zimbabwe who will benefit from the domestication of the UNCRP and resultant participation and inclusion of PWDs in all spheres of life, mainstreaming of PWDs in all spheres of life and wholesale integration in the SDGS. The UNCRPD recognises in its preamble (m) that the the valued existing and potential contributions made by persons with disabilities to the overall well-being and diversity of their communities, and that the promotion of the full enjoyment by persons with disabilities of their human rights and fundamental freedoms and of full participation by persons with disabilities will result in their enhanced sense of belonging and in significant advances in the human, social and economic development of society and the eradication of poverty. PWSs suffer from an unprecedented lack of access to fundamental freedoms and rights across the entire human rights spectrum that can only be resolved through UNCRPD and SDG action.
How is your idea unique? (1,000 characters)
The tailor-made medium of change intervention model, as disability migrates to a disability-inclusive sanctuary, is modelled on the v-formation that is adopted by geese as they migrate to the southern part of the United States to escape the bitterly cold Canadian winter. The consortiums created by NASCOH mirrors the v-formation of geese, which is the epitome of teamwork, the ultimate embodiment of direction, alignment and commitment (DAC) in the achievement of common goals. In addition to lack of a disability policy, guide on disability mainstreaming and best practices, no training and capacity building has been done for disability organisations and CSOS in Zimbabwe and there has been no practical coordination of disability mainstreaming initiatives. This is the first time that disability mainstreaming is being availed to multilateral stakeholders in Zimbabwe. No other disability organisation is conducting consortium interventions and mainstreaming disability holistically in Zimbabwe

In 3-4 sentences, tell us the inspiration or story that encouraged you to start this project.
NASCOH, being an umbrella disability coordinating body, hit on the idead of consortium interventions in 2017, was subsequently inspired by a presentation from the country's Election Management Body, which , in a stakeholder presentation in 2012, outlined the exponential benefits of working together collaboratively, collectively, inclusively, as peers and as teams, sharing common values and a common destination, mirroring the v-formation of geese, which is the epitome of seamless teamwork.
Please explain how your selected topic areas are influenced, in the local context of your project (1,000 characters).
Peace is central to human existence and preservation. It is both an antecedent for the creation and maintenance of democratic societies and an outcome of democratic dispensations underpinned by adherence to the principles of human security, good governance, rule of law and human rights, gender empowerment, and social, economic, and political development. For the 2.4 million PWDs in Zimbabwe, who suffer from a documented access to fundamental freedoms and rights across the entire social, economic, political and cultural spectrum that other people in society take for granted, peace remains an illusion. Poverty being both a cause and a consequence of disability, PWDs in Zimbabwe are impacted disproportionately by poverty, and though Zimbabwe, due to the impact of drought, climate change and natural disasters, is now attempting to address this under the Zimbabwe Disaster Resilience Fund, PWDs, who are the most affected, are not included in these interventions.
Who will work alongside your organization in the project idea? (1,000 characters)
Consortium members will be 7 NASCOH member organisations, all being umbrella organisations of different impairment categories for physically, visual, hearing, mentally, women with disabilities, youths, and parents of children with disabilities; the Non-State Actors Apex forum comprising the key networks and lead organisations representing all thematic areas of CSO engaged in responding to the social, economic and political development challenges in Zimbabwe (youth, church, women, agriculture and climate change, children, workers and business); private sector organisations; ideo open coaches, and ideo open global community.
Please share some of the top strengths identified in the community which your project will serve (500 characters)
Direction is assured as all consortium members manifestly embrace the goal of promoting peace, prosperity and global partnership; alignment as all members commit to organise and coordinate their varied peace related skills and, knowledge and experience to ensure inclusive peace outcomes for PWDs. Commitment as all have already demonstrated their willingness to subsume their own interests and benefit within the collective interest and benefit of PWDs.
Zimbabwe is a landlocked country in Southern Africa with a population of 16.6 million
How many months are required for the project idea? (500 characters)
