A lot of cities and towns in most developing countries are laden with dirty environment due to refuse dumps on the streets and  making them breeding grounds for disease vectors such as mosquitoes and rodents causing several diseases like malaria, and susceptible to floods. People living in these places pay no attention in sanitizing their environment thereby causing most of the aforementioned problems. Some communities organize timely environmental sanitation campaigns by inviting members of the community to participate in the events, the events are usually social accompanied with drinks and dances making the entire process fun and effective.

Social media has however, proliferated into every nook and cranny of the modern world, with over 1 billion people active on the social media and with great percentage of the users from the developing world, there is a great chance that people can be encouraged to to take a good care of their environment by introducing innovative concepts to draw their attention to the matter through these mediums.

This is why we come up CleanCall, an organization encouraging real world communities to form environmental sanitation groups on the social media on which they can invite members of their communities to join and organize monthly environmental sanitation events to clean their environments and socialize during the process. At the end of the exercise the community will post pictures of the event including the before and after images of the places they cleaned, the community of the month will be chosen based on the cleanliness of the environment and the turnout of participants. Prizes such as shirts or caps may be awarded to the winning community so as to encourage other communities.

We are starting CleanCall with Facebook and twitter where any Facebook or twitter user can join and become a member of the group closer to their community, if one's community group is not available on the platform, one can easily start the group and become the group head promoter.

CleanCall will provide community groups with set of guidelines of conducting an event the CleanCall way so as to ensure the event's effectiveness and that it is conducted in a fun way.

Explain your project idea (2,000 characters)

CleanCall is aimed at promoting environmental cleanliness in order to reduce diseases such as malaria that are directly or indirectly caused by dirty environment, this will be achieved by encouraging people to create CleanCall communities on the social media which will enable them organize a one day environmental sanitation events at the end of every month. Through this social event community members will have the opportunity to meet in person and solve their common problem, it will also promote peaceful coexistence among the members of the community as they will have time to discuss and iron out other societal issues facing them. To participate in any CleanCall one only need to browse the group closer to him and join the group. One week to the end of every month announcement will be made of the sanitation event. After the event community heads will be required to upload pictures of the event including the before and after pictures of the places they cleaned and number of event turnout. At the end the community of the month will be chosen and a reward will be awarded to the community. This will encourage other communities to participate and work hard in cleaning their environments.

How is your idea unique? (1,000 characters)

Traditionally communities conducting such kind of events usually organize them offline, some even just uses word of mouth to announce to community members, and a lot of these communities can't sustain the initiative for a long period of time. CleanCall will leverage the use of social media in governing the whole process. We believe CleanCall will eventually reach a lot of communities and help a lot of people.

Dear Muazu,

The photographs put by you appears to be of the work done by an NGO in Mumbai India. One is of the cleanliness drive at JUHU Beach and the other is that of cleaning of garlands and other material after annual immersion ceremony of Lord Ganesha in the sea.
Do you also work in Mumbai, India?
