Explain your project idea (2,000 characters)

-The majority of agricultural ecosystems in the world suffer from water shortages, whence the scarcity of water positions our planet in a highly vulnerable state to climate change.

In dry lands regions (over 40% of the planet's land surface), and during each growing season, plant productivity in sandy-loamy soils is dramatically reduced by limited availability of soil water and nutrients. Thus, highly permeable soils are unable to retain adequate water and nutrient resource in the plant root zone.
Given that agriculture consumes 69% of the world’s freshwater, efficient and sustainable irrigation technologies are needed.

Chahtech is a business project that manufactures an innovative irrigation system called :
the "Buried Diffuser”, that allows an efficient and effective underground irrigation that delivers water and nutrients to plants at the root level and thus drastically reduces water loss therefore dramatically reduces the level of water consumption used for irrigation, especially compared to the currently most used techniques.

In addition to numerous advantages such as more plant productivity, the reduction of the number of irrigations, healthier plants and better quality crops, eliminating herbicides use, reduction of soil salinization, improved soil aeration and energy savings.
The buried diffuser is an powerful solution to multiple societal challenges such as climate change, food and water security related problems.

Who are the beneficiaries? (1,000 characters)

-The buried diffuser targets multiple beneficiaries :
1- Farmers: this includes all kinds of crops: trees, vegetables, forage, cereals, hydroponic growers, vertical growing, green houses. they are the largest beneficiary from the buried diffuser. This high potential of this type of users is supported by problems of water scarcity and drought in the arid parts
2- Gardeners.
3- Projects related to Agriculture development, poverty alleviation, combating desertification and drought mitigation, Foods security and hunger mitigation. All those projects are funded by international organisations or international and regional banks. This kind of projects is executed by NGOs or governments.
4- Urban farmers

How is your idea unique? (1,000 characters)

Chahtech provides innovative solutions that were tested and compared to current mostly used irrigation techniques and were proven to be extremely effective and efficient and provides higher results and multiple key advantages such more water conservation, less energy, more productivity...

Idea Proposal Stage (choose one)

  • Early Adoption: I have completed a pilot and analyzed the impact of that pilot on the intended users of the idea. I have begun to expand the pilot for early adoption.

Please explain how your selected topic areas are influenced, in the local context of your project (1,000 characters).

Farmers, environmental and water security related organisations, groups and networks.
as an example, we worked with the international Food and Agriculture Organisation ( FAO ) to support a group of farmers in South of Tunisia who suffers from extreme condition of water scarcity in the region of Matmata.

Who will work alongside your organization in the project idea? (1,000 characters)

Farmers, environmental and water security related organisations, groups and networks.
as an example, we worked with the international Food and Agriculture Organisation ( FAO ) to support a group of farmers in South of Tunisia who suffers from extreme condition of water scarcity in the region of Matmata.

Please share some of the top strengths identified in the community which your project will serve (500 characters)

The community's awareness about the risks and challenges we are facing in terms of water and climate change is more prominent than ever, the immediate need to act and the willingness to adapt and support solutions that helps face these challenges.

Geographic Focus

The project focuses mainly arid and semi arid regions : Africa, parts of america, australia, india..

How many months are required for the project idea? (500 characters)

The scaling up plan will be executed in an estimated period of 18 months, mainly trying to reach multiple communities and regions and entering bigger markets through a well executed marketing strategy, this project would ensure the entreprise to have a greater impact that we envision to reach and support it through sustaining the required resources in order to achieve its vision.

Hi Wassim Chahbani ,

Have you got any installations done in India or if I could see some videos , it would be interesting to know more about your innovative technologies which could benefit the irrigation system . All the best thanks
