Beyond Water Protection: Sacred Earth Centers teach and model Indigenous ways of Prosperity and Peace in the Modern World
We are empowering Earth Centered leaders to teach others the skills necessary to regenerate natural resources and Indigenous Earth cultures.
Explain your project idea (2,000 characters)
Protektorz is education and advocacy arm of the Sacred Earth Conservancy. Our purpose is to care for and protect the Earth for future generations. Our core belief is that the Earth is Sacred. Therefore it is our responsibility to prepare next generation leaders to create systems that uphold our values.
We believe it is the time of the 7th generation to complete the Sacred Hoop(circle). It is time for ancient knowledge and wisdom to intersect with modern technology and information. Indigenous ways of honoring the Earth and all her living relatives are being remembered and shared with all races. Yet some of these ways are inaccessible to many people who have been corralled into poverty without access to resources. We will work with tribal peoples, government bodies, and private interest to create a network of Education Centers that honor local knowledge and experience while leveraging modern tools and diverse teachers. Our goal is to tap into Indigenous wisdom and apply it to solve modern problems.
Across the globe many have appropriated knowledge from Native peoples who have created solutions to many of our modern problems. Our goal is to be sensitive to those whose ways have been taken, and to gain proper permission when it is appropriate to share these Indigenous technologies to our future leaders who will be guided by a Council of Elders that will oversee their actions.
Our Sacred Earth Centers are living educational villages where life is the greatest teacher. We will stress the importance of creating Earth centered ventures through our small business incubator. Each participant will be expected to leave our program with a functioning organization that is self-sufficient within its first year of independent operation. Our centers run year around, and students will live on site helping supply the needs of the center's community from growing food to providing clean water.
Who are the beneficiaries? (1,000 characters)
Our beneficiaries are Earth minded Indigenous youth from 3 to 30 who are searching for a community of empowered teachers and fellow learners who are 110% into creating a just world for Mother Nature, all of her children, and all of their wild relatives. Many of these youth are from First Nation tribes in the Americas. We will also be focusing on bringing other Indigenous youth from around the world who are dedicated to creating a network of Earth Centered youth leaders. For us, an indigenous person is someone who identifies with their place of birth on Earth, and values the lives of all the endemic species in that ecosystem.
How is your idea unique? (1,000 characters)
We are a group of experienced educators and mentors in the fields of permaculture, organic farming, village building, natural healing, and native spirituality. We currently own our first proposed center and have infrastructure in place to house 15 students. Our site had been organically managed for the past 21 years. So we have people and place secure for our phase 1 rollout. Our school idea is unique in the fact that it will be village based. Students will interact on a daily basis in many ways with multi-generations of learners and teachers. Our goal is to create a network of empowered leaders who return to their homes to implement the same plan in their region. We seek to become the Jedi school for Earth centered youth leaders.

In 3-4 sentences, tell us the inspiration or story that encouraged you to start this project.
While watching videos roll in from Standing Rock, our hearts connected, and tears streamed down our faces at the continued injustice being perpetrated against First Nation Earth activist. We organized a supply run from GA to ND, and took five young girls with us to learn and participate in the camps. Our time in the Spirit camp aligned us with allies and warriors who inspired us to go home and create an organization that could potentiate this work.
Please explain how your selected topic areas are influenced, in the local context of your project (1,000 characters).
Our Earth has been aggressively extracted for her resources by Western influences that have sought to commit genocide against all Native Earth loving peoples across the globe, thus allowing human population expansion to eat up resources across the planet. Indigenous peoples' simple Earth centered lifestyles have been ruined across the planet as their lands were taken and their traditions outlawed. Their will be no peace for these people until they can secure traditional tribal lands and rights to freely practice their cultural ways. We believe the only path to Peace, Prosperity, and Planet for all on Earth is by empowering Indigenous leaders to secure what is left of their inheritance and grow their communities to protect what is Sacred for life on Earth.
Who will work alongside your organization in the project idea? (1,000 characters)
We will work with the vast and growing network of Water Protectors around the globe. These Earth sensitive people share the idea that our planet is alive; and she is our Mother. One group we have contacted, Earth Guardians, is a youth led group that spreads the word of environmental responsibility through music and successful litigation against corporations and the government.
We will also work with groups like Hopi Tutskwa Permaculture Institute, who are already making big differences on their reservations. SEC will work with food and resource organizations like Conscious Alliance and One Spirit to train and educate their next youth managers and leaders.
Please share some of the top strengths identified in the community which your project will serve (500 characters)
Indigenous youth activist are on the rise; they started the Standing Rock movement that is spreading across the globe. Many of these youth are from impoverished backgrounds and still find a way to make a difference in their communities. The youth have grit and energy to change paradigms that hold their people in poverty.
This is a holistic Earth centered project that will have initial focus on Turtle Island.
How many months are required for the project idea? (500 characters)
This project will be ongoing and regenerative beyond its initial programming phase. We seek to implement phase 1 during this 36 month deadline.
