Explain your project idea (2,000 characters)

The project is about linking the planet's two most important sectors of Agriculture and Tourism. The above sectors are important especially in the the developing countries and those people at the lowest social strata since most of them are primarily engaged in agriculture. The idea intends to solve the unemployment and limited incomes of farming communities by introducing another income generating along agribusiness value chains engaged in called Agro-Tourism. Tourism is the basis of economic and cultural development, it was after the mid twenties’ that started to grow progressively, becoming one of the major sectors in the world economy. Currently, tourism does not only include game parks, historical sites, lakes and rivers, but also farming environments, agro-processing centers, agricultural areas, agricultural occupations, local products, traditional food and the daily life of the rural people, as well as the cultural elements and traditions - referred to as Agro-Tourism (Ruhakana, 2015). Agro-Tourism is also defined as any practice developed on a working farm with the purpose of attracting visitors (barbie & mshenga 2008). The potential benefits of Agro-Tourism are varied; first, it provides on-site family employment, generates diversification opportunities for farmers to increase revenues and enhance the viability of their farming operations. Secondly, it’s an excellent tool to educate the public about the importance of agriculture, conservation and their contribution to the economies. We train farmers and farm owner on how to link the 2 sectors (Agriculture & Tourism), and then market and promote those farms for agro-tourists to visit them who in-turn pay for their services. "Jesus Christ, now all this money is for what?? why have you paid me? By just looking at my organic fruit trees, may be you're paying me because you were dug for me???" Said Naluoga Jane; a widower, mother of 7, after we had paid her $200 for Agro-Tourism services.

Who are the beneficiaries? (1,000 characters)

The beneficiaries are in 2 separate angles; 1. The farmers/farm owners/members of family farms/farming communities. These are the people whom who train in Agro-Tourism and then later promote and market their enterprises and then take agro-tourists there. As a service we always pay them cash and they get opportunity also to make direct selling of their products to tourists, free tourist laborers who of course take part in farm activities and at times receive guidance from professional tourists. 2. Agro-Tourists who include local and international tourists. The local tourists are mainly groups of people like students, corporate organisations, farmer groups, church members, local governments who wish to go and enjoy as they learn practical agribusiness. groups such as students always find this amazing since they are able to relate theoretical trainings to the realities on the ground. The international tourist are from very many areas and with different interests like fun and research

Before i started Agro-Tourism, i had done alot of farmer trainings to various groups of farmers and along the way i realized that there are many farmers who couldn't earn money from their ventures. Additionally i hail from an areas where tourism is a big business where tourists flock the areas for gorilla trecking in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, however all these money goes to the government and not directly to farmers. The reasons above inspired me to start Agro-Tourism business

Please explain how your selected topic areas are influenced, in the local context of your project (1,000 characters).

The selected topic of Peace, Prosperity and Planet are greatly influenced by a number of political, social, and economic concerns. Peace is influenced by political decisions, unemployment where many especially unemployed youth in Uganda are engaged in. This group of such youth in Uganda are called "Kifeesi" who have successfully managed to terrorize the city. Prosperity is influenced by political decision, limited awareness among profitable enterprises especially youth and women. Planet is greatly influenced by effects of climate change, drought, limited skills and knowledge on mitigation and adaptation measures. The above have greatly hampered agricultural sector. The proposed idea Agro-Tourism will intervene in all the above topical areas of Peace, Prosperity and Planet since it merges the sectors of Agriculture, Tourism and provided employment, conserves environment and engages both public and private sectors
